free programmer's text editor - any good?

I subscribe to giveaway-of-the-day's daily free software email:
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com

Today's free SW is Multi-Edit Lite 2006
software's home page: http://www.multieditsoftware.com/MeL-info.php

I was wondering if this would be useful for any of the modders / tinkerer's here or are there free programs that are just as good, or better, as some of the comments reported? :hmm:

This is a pretty cool site. You can sometimes get some great programs/games free, though the downside is there's no tech support or free upgrades. Also, you have to register the SW within 24 hrs of the listing, so if you want it act fast!

Same here as Shegeek72 says BBW. I cancelled the instal then Activation Complete popped up. Then their website loads again. Not sure if it's any use to me or not seeing I'm not a mod maker.

I wouldn't know, the most advanced modding I do is editing .cfg files and such, and I do that using Notepad.

Check out the review: http://www.bladedthoth.com/reviews/1...006-v10-03-00/

BladedThoth.com is usually right on. Apparently, there are free programs that are better. It says it can be used for website editing - for that I use ultra developer (dreamweaver on steroids).

the best hex editors, in my opinion, are Ultra-Edit32 and Hex Workshop. If you want to mod these are some of the tools you need (along with Photoshop and a host of others)

"System Requirements

30 MB of available drive space
256 MB RAM recommended 128 MB minimal"

For a text editor?

Huh.

$ cat > file.c

(Just type carefully)

I thought the same and deleted it all before installing.
