Default Configuring SH4 to make it feel like... Silent Service II

Hey everyone.

I just bought SH4 collector for my daddy, who's a big Silent Service II fan (he must have played hundred hours of this as far as my memory can go) but who couldn't play it for years now because of all this dos-compatibility/PC Speaker/PC speed combined mess. Well being a subfan myself, and while I think I'll stick to my beloved Type VII and those cold dangerous waters on this side of the globe, Im pretty sure my father will enjoy the Pacific much more than I will probably do.

The problem is that he wants a simulation level equivalent to Silent Service II - those who played will got the picture - and while Im pretty sure I can achieve something like that lowering the realism in-game, I have no idea what the mods with a nice touch of improved realism, like TriggerMaru, may do to the simulation if it is not to be played at my usual 90-100% rate.

Do you think I should install SH4, patch it and possibly add some graphical stuff, or I can go as far as risking myself applying "gameplay" mods without upsetting the balance wanted by my father?

Any input or opinion, especially about everything that may improve the "silent service II" feeling will be appreciated thanks!
