Default 2007 AMD X2 4800+ Dual Core vs 1986 Apple Mac Plus

Hmm. Are we going backwards with all our bloat?

Nah - not the point.

THe point is, our OS and Bloat in our productivity software makes our current machines slower than those of the past. That give an idea of how much garbage we load now days. 90% of what you are loading up to do a particular task is garbage you will probably never use.

Disable all the useless "features" and services on WinXP and with a decent machine you get the boot time a lot lower than is cited in that article. Using the stupidity of the common computer user as a sign of anything is bullsh*t. Though yes, the OS are bloated, 90% of what is loaded to do a particular task is nessascary for that task, 90% of what is loaded at boot is useless to most people, but its only loaded because they havent disable it.

1Buy new computer

2Format HD

3Reinstall everything

That was the advice I was given to get rid of bloatware. Sadly a new computer is aspirational in the extreme
