I have been playing with patch 1.3 installed for few weeks and last night and today the game has CTD on me. I suspect it may a corrupted save but not sure as I have been able to play for an hour or so before the CTD. Any clues?
Thanks

You need to provide way more information.
What were you doing when you had the CTD, where were you, what was the date, etc. tater |

Given this is SH4 it could be any number of things, so like Tater said we need a bit more info.

Wow - the date I know it was 1942 October (I think) I am operating in the Australian AOR and was on the surface - heading into port (Brisbane).
The First one - I was surfaced transiting south towards Australia on the route from the celebe sea. Another thing I noticed (game play mechanics but I am confused) was that I was offered and took command of a new GATO class boat. I though that my crew would transfer (as in SHIII) and though I would take delivery of the new boat in Pearl I would return south to Australia. Instead I am now based in Pearl. My crashes have taken place after taking the new boat and operating IVO Australia???? Thanks

Just for fun. Defrag and remove old internet build up. This cures my CTD ills when they occur which in not often.

This thread fits my problem to a T...
I've been playing for several weeks now without problems. I transferred down to Brisbane to see the other end of the war. On my 13th patrol, I kept getting CTDs on the Nav map with TC. I managed to get around ti and dock. I had one CTD on patrol 14 and it just crashed again on patrol 15. ![]() Always on nav map Always in TC (as little as 256 I've noticed)) ALWAYS in Celebes Sea or Banda Sea - more specifically all but one have been between Davao (South Philippines) and Mios Woendi. The one was SW of Mios Woendi. ALWAYS a few game hours after refueling at Mios Woendi the refueling station near Celebes Sea (East of Celebes, West of New Guinea) I've checked my drivers, I've uninstalled and reinstalled and patched. My hardware is fine (Prime 95 stable for 24+) I'm running TM 1.6.2. I'm going to try turning down the sound acceleration on my X-FI, but I doubt that's it since I can run around in TC ALL THE TIME anywhere else in the world - and I do A LOT. Event viewer always shows the same thing: Faulting application sh4.exe, version 1.3.0.0, faulting module simdata.dll, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00020bfc. Any thoughts (other than don't refuel/go there ![]() Edit: Got a couple of geo names. Last edited by neumanf15; 09-23-07 at 01:56 PM. |

Bump and update:
It happened again... I transferred to Pearl after the crash on my 15th mission, then redid that mission (hadn't been very far into it). About 2 real hours (~6 game weeks) and using up every fish I've got, I'm SW of Manila when it CTD's, this time RIGHT after I saved. I tried again, same thing. Then I tried again from the bridge with TC 32 and it still crashed. It happens in the exact same spot on the ocean every time. [Edit]: More updates: I tried going through there submerged - CTD. Then I tried going through there real-time (I'm <2 NM from the point where it CTDs with this save). EVEN IN REAL-TIME, it CTDs! Could there be something in the ocean at that spot that is causing the CTDs??? My next effort qwill be to go around that spot (or maybe away from) and see what happens, but that will have to wait for tomorrow. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Well, the mystery deepens...
I installed SHIV, patch 1.3 and TM 1.6.2 on my laptop, moved my save game over and tried there and got the SAME CRASH ON A DIFFERENT COMPUTER. My desktop is a AMD 4200+, 2GB, 8800GTS/320, X-FI. My laptop is a Intel Core Duo T2400, 2GB, 7900GS, onboard audio. Both have all the latest drivers, etc. So is it something in my career/save game or something in TM 1.6.2 or is the simdata.dll on my DVD corrupt? Maybe I'll go ask in the TM forum... PLEASE tell me someone has seen this before and knows a fix. |

OK, I will look into it. With the geo information, I might be able to nail it down. It could very well be an error in a group.
A common CTD I had early on (thought I found all of them) was that a group might be set to 2 columns. Say it has 1 ship that is always there, and 6 others at varied % chances. 99.9999% of the time, there are 2 ships, but if you ever get just one, the game will CTD trying to make 2 columns of of it. Thanks for the excellent information, that helps, but I need the DATES, too. If it is a group, it can be a simple "add this last" campaign patch to fix it. tater |

Tater,
What you're saying makes perfect sense to me, as there has just about always been a reported group nearby shortly before the crash. Here's the dates and locations that I can dredge up the correct saves of: April 3, 1944 @ ~N14-20, E119-15 (Can't find the exact save for this one, but it's around) January 23, 1944 @ ~N3-00, E127-20 December 11, 1943 @ ~N1-00 E126-50 (Couldn't get this one to duplicate, but...) December 12, 1943 @ (very rough) S5-00, E125-00 There was one more in the vicinity of N3-30, E127-20, but the date is very rough (no save, went back and started mission over) at Late Feb-Early March 1944. Thank you so much for the help - for now I'll avoid this latest broken group. If I knew what file to look in... Found it... [Edit:] I've been looking through 43a_Jap_Convoys.mis (since the dates match my problems) and I think I got the hang of reading it... If No=x means that it will spawn x many of those ships when it spawns, then RndGroup 13 may be missing one. It has 5 columns, but I only see 4 guaranteed ships (two Rndunit 1, two RndUnit 5). RndGroup 20 has 3 columns and only two guaranteed ships (two RndUnit 1). RndGroup 23 has 5 columns and only 2 guaranteed RndUnit 1s. RndGroup 34 has 2 columns and only one guaranteed (RndUnit 1). Is that what you're talking about? Last edited by neumanf15; 09-24-07 at 02:02 PM. |

JSGME fix. Apply on top of TM (in port certainly best, but it might work at sea).
