Hi, after being incredibly annoyed with the speed of the S class battery recharge I tried quadrupling the diesel HP of the sub using MiniTweaker. This more or less fixed the problem of the battery recharge taking FOREVER (it's still slow, but bearably slow now), but it apparently had the side effect of making my sub significantly slower when operating on the surface. For instance, if I set speed to 8 knots the sub will do 5 knots and so on. (I should point out that this behavior is constant regardless of whether or not I'm charging batteries.)
Does anyone know of a way to reduce the recharge time without this annoying side effect? And also, does anyone know why this is happening? |

OK, I think I've finally figured out how to fix this.
For the S18 sub in the Electric Propulsion category set: max_speed = 5,3 eng_power = 600 milesSubmerged = 100 knotsSubmerged = 1,1 I don't have any good data for the underwater performance of the S class so the results are somewhat approximate, if anyone here has any good data on underwater range for the S class I'd appreciate it. |

From the table I got at home shows the s-class as having maximum submerged speed at 11kts. So if you set the max_speed at 11,0 that should help.

No, the maximumspeed in the game is affected by both the max_speed AND the eng_power variable. And if I reduce the eng_power variable in order to make recharging batteries faster I also have to reduce the max_speed variable in order to maintain the same top speed. (After first reducing the eng_power to 600 without changing the max_speed I had a top submerged speed of about 15 knots.)
The information that the S class was capable of 11 knots is very interesting however, did it say anything about how long it could maintain that speed? |

On the internet I have come across one source which set the underwater endurance to 100 nm at 5 kts.
My attempts to reach 20 hrs endurance at 5 knots has failed. The s-18 and s-42 had two 750 hp electric engines which equals a total of 1500 hp. I now have the s-42 going about 12 hrs at 4 knots to 10% battery left. It is taking about 13.5 hours to recharge at 2/3 speed setting with the .cfg file modded to be 0.44 power at 2/3 speed. I have it heavily modded to do this. To get it to charge faster lower the electric RPM value. Do not use 100nm at 5 kts. Use 80nm at 4 kts. If you use a higher endurance speed it takes a lot longer to recharge and reduces your endurance at 4 kts. Try 250 RPM; 1500 hp; 80nm at 4kts. You may have to reduce the underwater drag value also. I will continue my experiments using a 3kt electric endurance speed and try different values for the distance. It appears the lower the endurance speed setting the faster it charges also. It's probably charging too fast right now (13.5 hrs). I will experiment with different combinations of RPM and endurance values. I am trying to obtain about 20 hours running at 4 kts. The best so far has been 14 hrs at 4 kts but took about 24 hrs to recharge from 10% battery power left. Anyone have any Idea what a realistic charging time is for a battery with only 10% charge left? ________________________ Last edited by wovik; 08-23-07 at 01:42 PM. |
