Hi!
I play ssh3 with 0% realism mod. Still it's quite odd that I haven't got any promotions. I've downloaded sh3 commander mod and via that promoted my crew members etc. At the moment i've sunk more than 300,000 tonns of allied shipping. Still no promotion in forseeable future..
What's the prob.?

i think it depends on the realism you play at.
e.g i used to play 0% too and i sunk the illustrious and a number of other stuff too i hardly got any renown or medals. i now play on about 85% realism and get lots of medals and renown for sinking good tonnage.

First of all, welcome to Subsim fellow drunken Finn.

And to make this more simple, I'll just explain it in finnish.

Elikä, "maine" määräytyy sen mukaan mitä realistisempana pelaat. Jos saat partiolta 100 renownia ja realismiasetukset on 50%, saat vain 50 pistettä, tietääkseni 0% realismilla annetaan tosin pisteitä, mutta todella vähän. Pisteet taas määrää milloin saat ylennyksen. Kun saat tietyn pistemäärän, saat ylennyksen. Toivottavasti autto!

Yep, the renown you get is based on the realism %.

And don't forget that "buying" upgrades zaps your renown. So the more you "buy", the longer it takes to get promoted.

Also, if you are promoted, then you 'buy' something and your renown goes under the needed for the promotion, you will be demoted back to your old rank.

the idea is probably so the game can demote you if you are dumb enough to sink a hospital ship or something but it's moronic to trade the rank of Kapitan z S for a bloody zaunkonig! and that could happen
