Damagemodel: fuel

I had a run in with some destroyers in thick fog. They managed to hit me twice with guns before I could dive deep. On my way back to base, I noticed I could only get 3800 km out of my diesel. I'm using a Gato with 60% fuel in the tanks. My fuel is not leaking (no lessening of fuel when under water), so what gives?

I also can't see anything like "fuel tanks" in damagecontrol. I had minor damage to my diesels from the shelling. I'm now stuck between Iwo and Midway with empty tanks and batteries

. Any pointers? Is damagemodel capable of showing leaking tanks and/or grossly overusing diesel after damage. And offcourse, everything was repaired, just not "repaired"...
