I was just wondering. I haven't bothered because the stock VIIc in GWX goes 18 kts in calm seas.
So should I bother?

I find it odd that the first engine upgrade is there to begin with since the diesels on U-boats were allready supercharged. I supose it could be a larger supercharger but no mention like that is made.

I shouldn't bother....renown would be better spent on weapons and other upgrades

Engine upgrade matters are covered in the GWX manual.
In RL, engines ALREADY had the upgrades that are later optional as presented in stock SH3. The way we approached it in GWX, was to VERY SLIGHTLY reduce initial engine performance. Upgrading your engines in GWX returns them to "full power." Again I want to emphasize that the reduction in power mentioned above was very slight. Generally speaking, no more than 1.5 knots. Also be advised, your maximum speed is affected by the weather. |

Personally I don't bother with engine upgrades, I spend renown mainly on upgrding electronic gear - i.e Radar/hydrophones to give a better chance of detecting enemy vessels.
