Is it necessary when using the periscope to determine the target range with the split image, to set the horizontal rectile of the scope at the waterline of the target? This can be nearly impossible if the boat is pitching and rolling. thanks! Joe S

yes there is joe, you might want to take a look and download this link.
its a rec manual i made, with the ranges of targets for ten ticks in the scope. i made this for 1.2, and 1.3 has changed some of the ranges, but their still close enough. all ijn warships and merchants are there, except for sails, on mag powers 1X, 4X, 7X. i dont know if you can input ranges into a tbt, i have never tried, i shoot with just the scope, no tbt, or pk, just me and the scope. one of these days, maybe when it gets cooler in the fall, ill start work again on some projects i started, one called combat sound, and targetting ships without using tbt's, ot tdc's. http://hosted.filefront.com/greyrider/ |

The following formulae are from the "periscope manual"
Hi Power magnification: Distance = 76.2 x MHH / # of tics. Lo Power magnification: Distance = 19.1 x MHH / # of tics.
