I have a question regarding the attack scope scale in GWX for using the mils scale for range finding.
It's now 10X on high power, I know, but what is the angle represented by each scale division now? In the manual for 6x, each small division represents 1/4 degree and each large division 1 degree, but i presume this is different now.

Has anyone made a mils chart for all the ships?
I'm talking about measuring the length of the ship to get the range. Steel Beasts has an excellent tutorial in range estimation.

Thanks jmr, that's exactly what i needed to know, and of course it makes sense.
I figured out that you can use the slide rule side of the whiz wheel to calculate range from mils readings if you can't be troubled with the recog manual and stadimeter. I jeust needed to be sure of the x10 scale

I was looking for a chart more like:
......Range.................1200m............600m Ship Medium Merchant..........6ticks............12ticks Large Merchant............7ticks.............14ticks

I uploaded one I had made a few months ago here:
Even though the UZO (6x) and the Periscope (10x) are different scales, the "tick marks" are spaced differently such that the conversion is the same for those two. http://www.mediafire.com/?0y0ijugsgmw |

@ dmlavan
Are you sure about that, as this contradicts Danmir's conclusions to summarise, from the SH3 manual, p39 Optic------------small marks---------large marks Peri (low power)----1degree----------5degrees obs=x1;att=x1.5 Peri (high power)---0.25degrees-------1.25degrees obs=x4;att=x6 UZO (x7)-----------0.2 degrees-------1 degree Danmir found that GWX attack scope --0.15degrees-------0.75degrees x10 but you are saying that GWX attack scope and UZO have the same scale. Which of these two versions is correct? The results only differ by .05degres, so it's possibly just an oversight but it seems to me that Danmir must be right unless the GWX team also adjusted the scale. However if they did that, then i'd expect it to stay at the original 0.25 degrees.

I can't vouch for what they programmed w/ GWX and if one of the team members can jump in they can probably give a better answer, but I did this based on a test mission with numerous ships at various ranges using the "map contacts enabled" feature so I could compare w/ the actual range. For the Attack Periscope (1.5x), I got 1 mark = 1 degree, and for the Uzo and Attack Periscope I got 1 mark = 0.15 degrees. I've used this fairly successfully for manual targetting.

The fact that you got 0.15 for both suggests that the UZO was also changed to 10x.
Does anyone know if that is the case?

excellent, thank you! I'd somehow failed to pick up on the change to the UZO
