Not sure whether this would interest navy sim fans or flight sim fans, probably both:

Ah! Ekranoplan!
Amazing craft, and very aesthetically pleasing in my view. There's something beautifully illogical about wing-in-ground, and seeing it work.

Russia built a real one just like that one without the missile launchers.
I think they called it the Dragon ... she only flew 10 feet off the water though. I think it was suppose to carry Marines ... I'll go look for it ... Still checking, but look what I found: http://archive.gulfnews.com/indepth/.../10030593.html Iran now has a super fast flying boat ... Here it is: http://aeroweb.lucia.it/~agretch/RAFAQ/WIG.html "Caspian Sea Monsters" 1960's oddity Name OKB TO Wght, tons Propulsion Crew/ Pssngrs Pload (ton) Spd (km/h) Ceilng (m) Rnge (km) Size lg*spn*ht (m) Function/Modifications Lun (Hen- harrier) TGKB* 400 8*NK-87 Kuznetsov four on each side of the fuselage aft of cockpit 400 - 450 -550 Cruse: 1-4 Search: 100-300 Max: 3,000 3,000 73,8*44*16 Sealift, coastal defense (six canisters with AS missiles atop of the fuselage), search and rescue They even built a passenger version: http://www.gizmohighway.com/transport/ekranoplan.htm ![]()
