Constant Evasion
Everytime i come accross a unescorted convoy, thats it, just merchants, they just evade
and start zig zagging all over the place. ![]() I know it adds to the difficulty, but come on, i cant get the element of suprise anymore, and i have to say it just makes it damn boring. It does it on multiplayer random map, and on career, well everything actually, i never had this problem before using patch 1.3. Any ideas anyone?:hmm: |

Interesting. What year was it? Perhaps some merchants get hydrophones later in the war (they did in RL).

It does it no matter what the year is.

thats my point, it is impossible for me to sneak up on them, ive tried submerging beyong periscope depth, running completly silent, no engines, nothing, and just waiting for the convoy to come closer. They get closer and closer, and then they start evading
![]() As i said, this has only started since i used patch 1.3. |

The year must matter at some level. A few of the merchants have hydrophones from 42 and 43 on.
a few in oct 42, more in sept 43. A few in 44. So nothing before october 42. I'm not talking about the evasion helming, I'm talking about them doing it when you have not even exposed your scope at all. I've done a bunch of dumb tests to find the taihosan maru CTD, and I was submerged and let a train of merchants go by, I never saw this until one got hit. |

No issue here. Only time I had them evade...when I was surfaced for all to see me.....

Maybe.... Try external view. Rough seas, or calm, clear water can give you away I bet. Rough because your con tower breaches, and calm clear because you can see a giant steel shark closing in. Its tough to totally confirm this, but I'd say mysterious detection is confirmation enough of things like this.
Also, a little too much speed a little to close to the surface could maybe cause a little bit of a wake. Try this: End around (get in front of them) Go deep. Like Poseidon's lap deep. STOP silent running. let them sail over you. When the contact bars start to "fan out" (as in they are approaching) go up to 50 feet or so, still at full stop. The slow movement will minimize pressure change noise. (which might help, but paranoia is the sub skippers best friend). Try to time it so you are just behind the first row. It helps to practice your passive targeting, but all of your targets are on the same course, @ same speed, so its not too bad. Up-scope and let fly with all tubes. Works for me most of the time. |

I have played around with the year and month settings, also i have tried stopping, diving to around 60m, and turned silent running on. When i was doing this the plan was to wait for the convoy to get within striking distance, so i could quickly go to periscope depth and fire all tubes. But they started evading me before they were even close ![]() Maybe they have some sort of super radar that picks up everything?:hmm: Oh and there were no escorts present. |

Perhaps a clean re-install and re-patch would help? I seem to recall others here rectifying bizarre behavior from the game by doing that. :hmm:
