Perplexing AI issue!

I've noticed something awfully strange since patching the game to 1.3. No matter how close I manuever my boat to enemy warships, they never fire their guns at me! They will attempt to ram me and will drop depth charges, but for some reason their guns stay silent. I've seen this happen now in both career missions and in the Philippine Sea single mission. Has anyone else encoutered this and if so, is there a fix for it?

No such issue here. You specifically mentioned warships - do armed merchants fire at you?

I've had cause to surface near escorts two or three times, and very quickly acquired an appearance reminiscent of Swiss cheese. My second voyage with 1.3 was cut short by a rather inept encounter with a small or medium gunboat, which I thought I'd be able to handle on the surface. I survived that but couldn't dive anymore; so was less than impressed when his DD buddy showed up to join the fun.

Anyway, the point being, in my experience, all the Japs will shoot at you if given the opportunity. I've also had them shoot at my periscope on occasion.

Same here!!! So far I've been lucky to escape and once limped home with some extra free flood holes.

Cheers!

Stange..

They definatly fire at my ship.

Last night I was leaving the area of a convoy attack. I "thought" I was out of visual range of all ships and ordered surface for fresh air and a battery charge.

Next thing I know rounds are zipping by from two different directions.

Guess my estimate of visual range needs a little work

I was trying an end-around on a small convoy (single escorted ship, lol) near Truk.I was just outside that max detection circle, and I saw him in and out. I turned in, and instead of scanning myself, I got lazy, and somehow the watch missed him cause even though I was turning in from the front quarter of his circle, he appeared on my map about 1/3 closer! Doh! Crash dive! I jumped to the bridge before we went down, looked with the binos and saw a shell inbound. Second salvo found the range and damaged the periscope before we slid under.

I noticed the lack of firing at me in 1.2, but 1.3 fixed this. Even though they start off by firing 10 yards in front of them when they are 500 yards away from my sub. The firing improves as they get closer.

I think I messed something up with one of the Tweaker files, because after reinstalling the game and all my mods things are back to normal. It looks like the cuplrit was something in the DAT file for AI sensors.
