Default Bearing indicator for SJ radar?

The original Silent Hunter had a bearing indicator on the radar set which provided for accurate radar plotting. But in SHIV we lack a bearing indicator readout and PPI screen sports bearing marks in 30 degree increments which makes accurate radar plotting a bit iffy.

Here's a pic of the radar set in SH 1 where you can see the bearing indicator.

I've been digging around and found this cool thread here at Subsim that shows pics of where the operator could find target bearing and range information.

I guess an easy solution would be for a modder to make a more precise bearing overlay for the scope. Any thoughts?

You mean something like this...

There are plenty of mods for this for you to try out, sounds like you are using an older version of the game though..

Get patched up to 1.2 and use one of Mraahs mods, or patch up to 1.3 and get a nice radar with a few bearing indicators...

Maybe its me but the graphics in SH1 look better to me than those in SHIV with respect to the two shots shown in the original topic post. I accept that in SHIV we have 3D, which is nice, but when focusing on an actual instrument I would be happy with the clarity of the above 2D view.

Man, that looks soooo much better than the 3D stuff. I wonder if it would be possible to mod SH1's 2D interface (or one like it), for the RADAR, SONAR and TDC stations at least, into SH4?

while using the radar, do risk chance of getting picked up by your signal? Does the Jap Navy have the capabilities to pick up on different RF signals our boats are putting out?

anyone got any links to these mods?

Im just starting my 3rd patrol, still dont have any control of my radar uses...

I agree. I'm not really fond of the 3D interfaces for the sonar and radar stations but I doubt something like that can be modded into the game.

What I did was adjust the camera values so I have a closer, zoomed in view of the radar as described here http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=118964
