Default UZO Whites out

Guten Tag!

I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. When I use the UZO it is fine for the first couple of moments then the view just turns white. This happens to the periscope too. Does anyone know why this could possibly be happening?

Thanks for the help!

Hello camabear: Welcome to the forum!
to tell you the truth, it's the first time I hear about it, never happened to me before.
But don't worry, have some patience and soon other kaleuns will give you more than enough solution for this.

Camabear,
Welcome to Subsim. I don't have the foggiest idea but something is bad.
Stick around and someone will help you.
When I get a bad problem, sometimes the only and quickest answer is to re-install.

Welcome to Subsim.

By any chance, do you use an nVidia GFX card. This sounds like the old nVidia 'spray bug', which IIRC was corrected with updated drivers or the latest SH3 patches.

It's happened to me, and still does occasionally.

It only happens to me when I run SHIII in windowed mode, and I'm also on the web at the same time. If I have a website up before I go into the UZO or scope view, this happens some of the time (I think it is related to the graphics on the website I happen to be viewing). If I bring the website up *AFTER* I am already in the UZO or scope view, things are fine.

It never happens to me when I run SHIII in full screen mode (probably because when I do that, SHIII is the only thing my machine is running).

By the way, I've had this happen to me at really inconvenient times, but you *CAN* still play, as long as you still have weapons officer assistance enabled. I don't anymore, so when it happens to me I generally just save the game, exit, and then go back in.

Default I don't use windowed mode

and I still use Weapons officer assistance, as I just bought the game a while ago (still not familiar with a lot of it). I haven't patched it yet, but I do think that may help (?). As far as my video card, that is a good question. I will have to see what I have. This is really bugging me too. The other night I had a T-2 that I could have got but no uzo, no scope, no sinky.

Thanks for everything. I really appreciate everyones help and concern.

If you just bought the game, check the bottom right corner of the main menu and you will see the version number. It should read 1.4 if it is already patched. Some newer versions are.

If you still have Weapons Officer assistance, you still could have nailed it.

If you are submerged, get the bearing from the sonar guy, point the periscope in that direction, and hit 'L' to lock on it. Then have the Weapons Officer generate a solution for you.

If on the surface, you can use the Watch Officer to give you the bearing. Point the UZO, blah, blah, blah.

Without WepOff, though, you are pretty much screwed, although there is a way to generate a solution just on sound alone, but they didn't do that back then.

Let me play psychic; You have a nvidia card? Yes then hit Ctrl+P to get rid of the white out. If that don't work then its another bug.

There is a stock SHIII bug with nvidia cards where the spray from the bow whites out the uzo and binocular views. The key combo above disables the spray as do later patches.

EDIT: oops I see Danlisa has already mentioned this...

I'll try that next time it happens.

I have no idea what kind of a video card my machine has. It's an IBM Thinkpad.

Default I fixed it!!!!

Would you believe all I had to do was patch it to 1.4b? Isn't that just sad on my part.

I did have a great patrol in my Duck. Got 4 C-2's and a destroyer. I hope my career doesn't end prematurely.

Thanks for everyone's help and good hunting!
