Default 1.3 Nighttime visability

I haven't play the game for a couple of months waiting for the patch, so I might be imagining this, but I swear its got much darker at night. Before the new patch I'm sure I could see pretty well at night, but on my current mission I can't see a thing, other than muzzle flares. Its not my gamma before anyone suggests that. Is it due to my position or the weather, or have I gone mental?

I can't say I've noticed any difference, it could be the weather though, obviously if it's cloudy there's not going to be much light anyway. Are the muzzle flashes the same intensity as before?

Funny... I was thinking it was lighter at night.

I had a bad storm last night, 3 DDs and 2 big passengers liners passed at about 400 under my nose and wasn't possible to lock the target: too dark. I have seen only their black silhouettes in the rain.

The intensity of the light depends on the phases of the moon.

... and this makes the game more challenging.

Berry made a mod once that changes the pure black night into something lighter for SH3 last year. It is a small graphics file. I think it would work for SH4 since it is the same engine. Sky atmosphere texture something. If you look at that mod, it was a nice fix for those like me who have a very dark screen.

I personally think it is just right. I have had several different kinds of 'night' attacks since 1.3. My first patrol with 1.3 I had a nice moonlit night where I could easily see and engage a couple of tankers.

The next patrol I had a beautiful storm that masked me as I sped out of Rabaul after pumping a couple of torps into a Hiryu class carrier.

I've safely employed active sonar solutions in typhoony weather before. By safely I mean that the escorts didn't manage to do me in after I fired my fish.
