Oil and water don’t mix.

I was looking forward to my first venture into the Mediterranean with SH3, what with running GWX and the newly acquired Skins. But regardless of what I do / undo, load / unload, lift and separate, my campaign is fettered by what is widely recognized as the visibility bane of the Atlantic. That is to say the enemy sees my uboat long before my uboat sees the enemy.

The Atlantic problem was remedied, and simulation greatly improved with the "Stay Alert Crew" Mod, a Mod that stays loaded on my SH3. I thought it would have effect on all regions of water, i.e. Atlantic, Pacific, and Med, et al. Either this is not the case, or there is another problem. I have stripped away all Mods to reload them, and to reload them in a different sequence. I take it there is a pecking order with Mods as some will affect files already changed by other Mods, canceling out the prior or rendering the program deficient. I’ve tried pairing off with both the 8k and 16k range modifications, with and without "Stay Alert Crew", with and without Skins, and even used SH3Commander to…gulp…cheat and beef up the watch crew. They’re still inept.

So far my VIIB has sailed out of Salamis, headed for varying squares in CO during the early months of 1942. I have been summarily shelled from over the horizon, intentionally rammed by destroyers while at periscope depth in fair weather and foul, at night and day, undergoing normal or silent routine. This is not just a call for a change of tactics. The last incident began with only "Stay Alert" loaded with GWX running as the background. I received a Bdu message that my base was changed from Salamis to Brest. That was fine. It would force me to step away from the problem, and maybe gain a different perspective. After this patrol I would relax and enjoy French food. CO was my designated patrol zone in the Med. Then "blink", I’m in the Gulf of Guinea off the west coast of central Africa. What happened to the Med ?

If any of you have experienced this in the past, and I mean in the Mediterranean, then please share your solution. My uboat is literally dying to know.
If you have to set up a patrol to simulate it, the marinara served at the Salamis mess hall is out of this world.

Hi, have you checked out this thread of mine, mid 42 in Mediterranean:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=117921
I have a combo of sensors done by Rubini & Redwine, (12 files) I use this on top of GWX, I could pack & upload if you want in JSGME format.

Edit: Forgot to mention, this is for 8k atmosphere, for 16k you may want to check this out:

My best bet is you changed something without rolling back SH3Cmdr? Like enabling or disabling a mod? Been there, done that!

Re. your sensors, then perhaps you should try "GWX - My subssettings!". I'm sure you'll like it. Before enabling, roll back SH3Cmdr and disable all other Mods first.

A great way to start a Med-career is to launch SH3Commander and select 23rd/29th Flotilla with start in 9/41. You'll departure from La Rochelle, but your patrolgrid will be in the Med - you will have to go through Gibraltar In 10/41 your new base will be transferred to Salamis.

If you're not too eager to go through Gibraltar just select a later date.

Happy hunting!

Reece ! Long time no read. I would certainly entertain a sensors suite. Thank you.
JSG...yessireee

Ahoy Subject ! Yes, I've a mess on my screen. But I'm going to follow some friendly advice. Seth, jimbuna, brag, and none too few others have recommended keeping a patched yet unmodded copy of SH3 on the hard drive for these special occasions. I'm going to erase the old, and start fresh. I feel I'm only compounding matters by my juggling Mods. All those in favour of consolidation, say umm.

Hi guys,

I seem to have a problem starting in the 23rd/29th from 09/41. The earliest I can select is October, which means I don't sart in La Rochelle but in Salamis. I'd love to be able to start a Med career in La Rochelle and pass through Gibraltar, but can't seem to find a way. Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Dan

Not at home right now, but I'm not sure you can sail/start from La Rochelle :hmm:

If I'm wrong, change the start dates in the Basic CFG file.

If your using SH3 Commander then you are governed/constrained to what is already scripted in the Flotilla section.

It's part of Ducimus' "Flavoured To Taste"-mod.
You'll have to use his Flottilla.cfg... and (note for Reverie) it's incorporated in "My GWX".

Or use Ducimu's "GWX flavoured to taste" tweak pack for GWX. He added the need of starting in the french bases when assigned to Mediterranean flotillas

Aha, that mod sounds like what I'm looking for. Is there a link?

Cheers,

Dan
