So I just started up a new career in 1941 out of Pearl in a Tambor-class, and used some of my 1000 starting renown points to request an SD-Radar for air search. It appeared to install just fine in the base, and I even see "UpackGatoSDRadar" listed on my damage-control screen, but I can't turn it on.
I've got a key mapped to "toggle radar on/off" and that doesn't work, nor does clicking the radar on/off switches on the either of the radar screens. I don't get it. Anyone else encounter this problem, or have any ideas on how I might fix it? Now that I think about it, it does seem a little strange that I have "UpackGatoSDRadar" when I'm in a Tambor class submarine! nomad_delta |

Get this: I headed toward Palau where there's a Japanese airbase, and now I'm getting radar reports of enemy aircraft, even though I can't seem to turn my radar on and both the screens are blank!
Very odd. Anyone else seeing anything like this w/ SD-Radar? nomad_delta |

The unit for the SD radar isn't physically modeled, so you can't switch it on or off.
It's active all the time. The two screens you see in the control tower are for the SJ radar set. That becomes available later. Mike. ![]()

Oh Ya the radar in this game has made me say words I don't normally say. I went to Honshu without any radar installed in a Tambor and still got radar reports. I want to be able to turn it off when I get close to my home port, but now since patch 3 not only does the radar man report friendlies so does the sonar. I'm looking right now for some reduced traffic and contact mods I have seen on the forum. I just thought I would let you know you are not along with the radar problem. Good Hunting Anyway.
Now my new gripe is since patch 3 the batterys. They run down quick and it takes for ever to get them recharged. I ran the battery down on my Tambor to 50% and it took from Hokkado to Pearl to recharge it running at flank speed. AAwww &%$*

SD radar is, if installed, always on. It will only detect and warn for air targets, not surface contacts. Tested and confirmed.
The SJ radar set however, can be turned on and off, and does have a panel, unlike the SD radar. The SJ radar shows the PPI screen and the round one (can't remember the name) and can be set to three different ranges and focus or sweep operation.
