Default 1.3 Experience

Well I was just able to finish up about an hour with patch 1.3. And boy, I gott'a say, the IJN sure doesn't mess around anymore.

First command is the Sailfish in '41, with orders to deploy to the East China Sea, in addition to some commando deployment. Along the way I bagged a medium frieghter, although he made me use up five torpedoes, as he wasn't exactly willing to cooperative like his buddies back in 1.2 (evasive manuevers galore), lol.

A couple uneventfull days later, after inserting the commandos, my rader picks up a single contact. Now in the past everytime I've had a lone contact, it ends up being a zero. So I decided to stake it out, in part to test the new AI. Unfortunaly this Zero turned out to be a Betty who got the jump on me, and place four bombs right along the lengh of the hull. Damage was severe, and for a moment I contemplated heading home. But thankfully the crew was able to fix the most critical components, bulkheads especially.

Almost to the deployment zone, I run into a large convoy and immediatly began my approach. Everything was looking good thus far, was able to get a proper speed reading (new speed calculation rocks btw), and hadn't tipped off the escorts. Now, here's were things got ugly. Just as I finished the TDC setup on a medium frieghter, the nearest escort began pinging away. So it was four fish away and a quick dive at ahead standard with the rudder hard to port. I went to external came to watch the torpedoes, and counted two prematures, a dud, and one miss; curse those Mk.XIV's.
Long story short I managed to dodge the first depth charge run, but the second, managed to transform my once beautiful boat into very large rudderless paper weight.

Here's a shot of the "crippling blow". There's a third escort off to the left, at all stop, pinging away (they took turns doing this), while the convoy speed up and engaged in some hefty zig-zag action.

Overall I'm truly impressed with 1.3, especially the AI, almost makes me want to go back to the Atlantic, lol.

So many a hearty thanks Dan and co.; this has become the most enjoyable subsimming experience I've had yet.

Sue them.

In other news:

The AI improvements sound great! Poor / retarded AI is a real showstopper in a tactical simulation, glad they fixed that.

Default AlLL Right!!

In the few minutes that I have been able to play I have enjoyed myself immensely!! The AI is tougher and the radar is working fine. First time I've had radar! I have nothing but praise for all those who worked to get the 1.3 patch out! Thank You! So, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go seek out the Co-Prosperity Sphere!

I hope that in patch 1.3 that the IJN did not receive upgraded sound equipment and training from the Royal and U.S. Navy in anti-sub warfare so that they provide a challenging experience at the expense of historical accuracy.

1.3 and TM 1.3 together is really terrific. AI is much better, and the game is much improved accross the board. Very good job Dan and the Devs and Duci for TM 1.3.

Who cares about animations? I rarely find time to admire the view when I'm getting into position to attack a convoy or when threading the needle between a dozen DCs.

I read in another thread that the interior damage sound is still not working. Every other problem I've read about is no big deal but it would suck if everthing is breaking around you but you cant hear it. Off to try it out myself

As some know, to repair one issue sometimes creates another issue. Scope animation is not a integral part to my gaming experience. This feature looks to have been removed to make another neat feature. More than likely a feature that is a integral part in sinking ships. Perhaps if another patch is to come they can work this issue out. Until then, sail on with the new goodies and the better AI.

BTW the AI spanked me pretty good. Much more challenging and much more rewarding when you get one or two sunk. Before patch 1.3 I was surfaced in a convoy, sunk 4 DD and the rest of the convoy just by using my deck gun. Not what I would call realistic. The new AI bring a whole new deck of cards to the table now

Here is the argument....the Japanese ASW was not that good and certainly it was not like the Allies in the Atlantic. This is true. But....the submariners were just as shaken and just as silent to get away like any submersible would be with ash cans dropping around their steel tube.
