I'm a dutchmen and I read a book by a dutch writer K.Norel named "Varen & Vechter" (freely translated: Fichting on the water). It's a novel about the men (mostly the dutch) wich fought and died in the merchant and royal navy. 1 of the storylines is about a dutch watchofficer named Cornelis the Wolf he served on the O-16 wich sunk in the asian theatre, he was the sole survivor of the O-16. He swam for 34 hours from his sunken boat to an island.
I always believed this was fiction. Today I was looking for tech stuff on subs, when I found out it was fact. In the novel several instances are discribed on how the dutch did torpedo attacks. He discribes the practise like it's an airplane ie the sub is steered onthe the target and not the torpedo. My questions: Do people know a site where I can find more on the dutch submarines? and Did the dutch use TDC for attacks or did they simply aim their boat to the target? |
