24 April 1943
0231 Hours GMT I have encountered three large convoys over the past 72 hours on a rich hunting route West of Portugal. Route is described as follows: Start on the southwestern edge of BE65 and draw a line approximately 86 KM long extending eastward and make a mark on the 86 KM point. From this point draw a line 1,000 KM southward to approximately the Grid CG15. 50 KM either side of this "corridor" is prime hunting grounds. (at least that i know of for 1943) Convoys are heavily escorted and the threat of air patrol is great, however, each convoy encountered contained at least 3 Large tankers and 3 troop transports... all other ships were Liberty cargo's and smaller in each convoy. Convoys seem to be travelling along this line spaced behind one another by about one or two days travel. Through repeated attacks on the convoys mentioned here i have managed a total of 51,289 tons over a 3 or 4 day period by chipping away at them, which on high difficulty is a very respectable total for any month in 1943. ![]() Good luck and good hunting and remember... "it is better to sink little than to damage much!" dont be affraid to send spreads at the ships you encounter in this area... you dont want to let them get away.
