Default [req] Oil?

im just wondering if its posible to have a trails of oil or a big "pool" after a ship is damged or sinks, when a ship sinks normally, at least in ww2, there is a large spill of oil, why not have it be done realisticaly ingame.

I didn't get to play SHIII much, but I know they modded it into SH2, and the immersion it added was phenomenal. I was thinking about asking for this not long ago, but wouldn't something like that be hard coded? I mean, if these amazing mod guys would have stumbled across the entries for things like 'debris state' or something, they would jump on it. ( Please don't take that as a unappreciative statement..these people have done amazing work modding this sim).

However.. there must have been things that were completely overlooked because the Dev's were being RUSHED that they fully intended to include, like realistic debris depending on ship class..( kind of funny to see cargo crates jumping to the surface after an ARGANO light cruiser goes down..), life boats that aren't classified as merchants, and my biggest immersion killer: completely smooth, calm water around a sinking ship. That water should be churning, thrashing, and white, like the 'water' from the Limber Holes...plus oil, fires that burn with black smoke for hours...

I apologize for ranting..

Oil traces in fire was into SH III, they are not into SH IV (except after plane crash... may be?) , may be to save FPS.

Leovampire added them to the game, works fine when you hit a fuel loaded zone or an engine room, sure they will be into the next version of Die Slowly...

Default Sombody did make a Mod for SHIII for oil a long time back

But it was a killer in machine resorces needed a high end machine to run the mod
but I think it was because of the detail level of the oil slik. I have that Mod and have been looking into it for use in SHIV to work with the fire's burning on the surface of the ocean but again even that sometimes slow's the game a bit looking at all the fires but again I am working on that. If I can even it all out so it dosn't use up too much resorces I will put it into working order for redwine to use in the Die Slowly Mod.

I am trying to create differn't debris for each class of ship one for tankers one for freighters/Cargo one for Troop carrier's and so forth. Just slow going because you have to get each class of ship to have those effects and when the game wasn't originaly set up that way you have to add new items to their respective Dat files.

If I breach 2 Tankers at once the fire effects boost the amount of video ram used to almost the full 256mb of my card so I can imagine what adding oil would do as well but it is a work in progress and I am getting there. Can't wait to get my 512MB
PCI Express card LOL!

That is great to hear, i did think that it may cause a performance decrease, but i figured out in the open ocean it might not be to harmfull, now in a harbour or port it might cause a tremendouse drop, but how often do most of you go into a harbour and sink ships, at least i dont. Anyway its amazing how much you moders can do to "fix" the game, thanks alot for your replys.

It seems to be not too problematic as it is into SH III.

I think so the FPS droop is caused by the fires/flames sounds not by the fires graphics...

It is not so problematic into SH IV... and i am not runing a top end computer, PIV 3.4 NothWood, 3GB RAM, ATI X800 XT PE AGP 256mb, and it cause a samll FPS droop but i can pl;ay with no problem with all background programs opened, antivirus, antihacker, antispywares, more than one...

I think so there will be not problem to bring back the effect into SH IV.

well i get slow downs when near a port or in a fierce battle sitaution with many ships and stuff, i have 2GB RAM, ATI 1600pro 512mb vid card, amd Processor, i think its a 3400ghz, not sure now, could be lower, but i can run most games on high, this is the first 1 i have had to dumb down the settings abit like lightshafts and full scene glare and what not.

I think so you must to have not problems... any way, almost in my personal installation, may be due a masive use of uncompressed textures, i have more FPS problems into SH III than into SH IV...

Default I personaly have on my PC

4GB's of DDR2 Sdram and 4Gb's of virtual memory and a new Pentuim extream Quad Core that is 3.8GHz's and the new 512MB Nvidia PCI Express card card shouls be at my door soon I hope. Plus I ordered the new Sound Blaster XFI as well.

have 2 500Gb Rave hard drives because I have almost if not 100 Games for the PC although all are being neglected since I got this game LOL. But I have a Trainz Sim that is over 40Gb's in size by it's self. So I need the extra hard drive space.
