Default Tried and True Tactic

I'm new here so perhaps this has already been posted. If so, my apologies.

I was patrolling the Marianas in my Tambor-class boat and I ran into a small fishing group. It took forever to sink one with my deckgun (I'm playing with RFB 1.28). As I was running down the other three, the weather worsened and the deck gun was unavailable. Annoyed, I rang up full speed and headed right for one of the boats. Great collision sounds followed by a burst of flames as the fishing boat exploded. I rammed the other two as well. They also burst into flames. My boat suffered no damage.

Ramming! It's quicker and saves both ammunition and fuel.

Wellcome aboard, sailor

And you can also do it with Marus I collided in a heavy fog with one (Was so close I even saw the jap sailors faces) and had no damagein my sub

Of course, not a realistic tactic, but hey this is just a sim....all you can expect is to get realistic outputs from realistic inputs. If you go wild, there is no guarantee that the limited world inside a coded game engine will give you accurate responses. Play historically and you will be rewarded, play arcade like and, well, better get Quake and enjoy much more

It certainly beats SH1 in that regard. There if you even rammed a sampan you'd sink immediately.

Well Im tempted to post it but its an sh3 pic.

In SH3 I once sank a cruiser (HMS Repulse) by attempting to ram
I ended up on the foredeck wedged between the b turret
and the bridge (good placement) however getting the
rest of the way over was proving problematic so I ordered
a crash dive and took the cruiser down, the game apparently
failed to recognize the obvious bouancy issues. wedged in there
tight I did manage to extract the sub on the way to davy jones'
locker but it was touch and go for a minute there. what a lark.

I have a bad habit of semi regularily ramming Black Swans as well
its kind of a grudge thing, you know past life infringement on
realtime experience.

regards
M

Hummm, that gives me nice idea about how to "Break the ship's back" without a magnetic exploder torpedo: You just dive under the enemy and then blow ballast when exactly below his keel

Ramming upwards through the keel is more fatal than a run in on the
surface against 15 inch guns. I would stick to "surface ramming"

admittedly I have done an underwater ramming on that Japanes mini
sub in the approachs to pearl at the beginning of the war. but it
was small and harmless. I tried surfacing with it pinned on my
foredeck, worked to until all US forces started firing away
at mr indestructable on my bow.

It works really well you know. Best way ever to get rid of DDs. Just make sure that you put at least one shell/AA bullet into the burning wereck before it goes boom, so you get credit for the kill.

This tactis is so cheap you wouldn't even believe it. The only part of a DD that WILL cause damage to anything but deck gun/flak guns is his bow. Keep your sub's body away from that and you'll be one lean mean shipbreaking machine.

EDIT: Here's how it should look if properly executed (yes, there is only ONE DD in that image):

LOL that reminds me about a nice quote of Julius Verne when he was decribing the talent and innovative character of the US americans and said "What an american can imagine, another can put it to practice". But I never figured someone would take my joke seriously and do it :rotfl:

Oh well, as I said before all you can expect is to get realistic outputs from realistic inputs. :hmm:
