Very tragic.

It might be best not to discuss such highly emotive news events whilst General Topics is Condition Orange.

Lets have something a little more trivial for a change!

It is not emotive (at least for me), and it is not "something American". This is psychological group dynamic at work, and there is no country and no people where it does not happen. It's an incident reminding us of man's biological side of nature, not more, not less. In stories like this we see how thin the civilizational make-up of our behavior and decision-making really is.

Nicely said.

Actually, what I express - by content - is owed to Freud.

And you wonder why a .45 Kimber Pro Carry, with a couple clips is sitting in my car glovebox right now? You'll never see it, but I know its there. I like to believe it is more for attitude adjustment in a situation like that, than for actual use.

If the driver produced a firearm in that situation, his passenger would still be alive.

Exactly same result, because being caught with a firearm, and going up to kick the living crap out of someone is not a smart thing to do - big time jail time for that. Having a firearm tends to make people more level headed and think twice about his or her actions if you've ever had experience with one. I can understand not knowing much about it though over in your neck of the woods though.

The incident happened near Austin, Texas, as crowd of between 2,000-3,000 people gathered for the annual Juneteenth festival, which commemorates the freeing of American slaves.
There's more to the story than the media is reporting.
Sounds like the driver was Mexican, which is going to cause racial tension with black gangs, regardless if the Mexican was in a gang or not (the guy was 40, so I'm going to guess not).

These people were happy to beat someone to death. That takes time. I can't see the much shorter process of shooting someone dead involving more level-headedness, more consideration. I just don't get it. I don't see how owning a gun changes how concerned the person is with someone else's safety.

True, Tchock and guns tend not to cross paths.
I've had them pointed at me, and that's enough!

EDIT - Um, like Tak said. SUBMAN (or anyone), if you're quotiong or responding, go to the other thread. I'll be right behind you

Gentlemen, I was persuaded into leaving this http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...light=firearms thread open with the understanding that it was imperative that all of the valuable firearm discussion be kept in one centralized location. Please use it.

Thank you,
The Management
