Default Pac Storm vs. BS Midway?

I bought Pacific Storm like the day it came out...

Overall I liked it, although I only played it thru once and have not since touched it.

I wish these developers would stop trying to be all things to all people and just build a strategy game and leave the mediocre man-your-battlestations nonsense out of it... or if you want to make a WWII flight sim, fine do it right. Enuf with the arcade flight-sims please!

Now I'm wondering if I should bother with Battlestations Midway. Almost looks like the same game...

Things I liked about Pac Storm:
- all the different ships
- the battleships
- the carriers
- the economic model
- open-ended campaign

Things I didn't like:
- manning arcade-like stations (and yet not the big guns??? )
- please spare me the lame flight-sim nonsense
- took too long to get anything built
- the AI has no defense against suicide sub-packs

So... two questions...

1) Should I be looking for updates or mods for Pac Storm? I saw something about Pacific Storm "Allies" but didn't know if that was a mod or expansion pack.

2) Would I be any more or less happier with Battlestations Midway?

Well if you are really opposed to "Arcade" gameplay then BSM isnt the game for you.

One thing you have to understand about BSM before you buy is that the game is Very arcady, very unrealistic and is anything but openended..... Its actualy quite limited unless you play multiplayer

You dont have the same level of control over ships and the situation as you do in PS and dont look down on your units. Its not a RTS like PS. What you do have though is a very nice looking game with great battles and a good laugh with your mates.

PS allies is a remade version of PS from what i can tell , with more units, options and a gameplay overhaul. If i were you i would try the demo of BSM and do a little more research on PS Allies before considering which way to go.

Hope this helped

BSM would still be on my PC if it had a single player skirmish mode.

Pacific Storm Allies will be a stand alone game from what I heard.

i am having problems with BSM submarines i am halfway through the game [but mostly playing i net ] an have found i can no longer steer my subs . my surface ships and air units work well but subs just float off into oblivion, also when having ordered attack the command reverts to cruise on all ships -air units stay on course .
is this some thing that will force me to uninstal the game and reloald it again ? any help on this would be apreciated

thank you AJM

Thats exactly the same situation for me

Once the singleplayer campaign is out the way theres nothing to do on the game
Just to rub salt in the wound the singleplayer itsself was awful short. Midway seems like a damn stupid point to end the game... i mean thats only half the war

Kinda ironic with the games name though, the devs got about midway through making the game then just seemed to give up

Oh and sorry krautkllr, i cant answer your question.... maybe as you said completly reinstalling the game may help
