Newbies - The Answer To Our Prayers - A Real Manual

After long searching through the forum I located a post giving a link to a 350+ "unofficial manual" for SH 4 (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/sear...earchid=165824).

The manual is written in ... German!

But that's no problem. Here's what I've done:

Downloaded the manual from:

http://sh4.wamotec.de/phpBB2/downloads.php?cat=3

Note: to the left of the final download button you'll see a code you must type into a little box (it prevents bot downloads).

Then, run the manual with Adobe Acrobat 7.0 (NOT just the Reader). Select the cursor tool rather than the hand, so you can highlight text.

Then, highlight a paragraph at a time from the text in the manual, Control+C to copy, then go here:

http://babelfish.altavista.com/tr

And paste (Control+V) the German text into the window. Select "German to English" and bingo! a very good translation appears in English, quite easy to understand.

The manual has excellent screenshots demonstrating each step of the process. My compliments to the authors!

AN INVALUABLE TOOL!

Administrators: perhaps you'd make this a sticky?

cheers

What? You posted this and didn't bother to go through and translate/post an english version? Just Kidding, this looks promising. No but really...someone? Anyone got time to translate 349 pages for me?

Let's see a few reviews of it and, if they are postive, we will link this thread to a sticky. Bablefish can be, ummmmm... challenging.

Default "Bablefish can be, ummmmm... challenging."

"Bablefish can be, ummmmm... challenging."

It works well for a word or a simple sentence, but I fear it is paragraph impaired.

I can read German well enough to make out what is being said, but translating is another matter. Anyone got a Russian version? That I could do: очень horror-show, as they say.

we are very proud of our user guide, so have a look here:

http://forums-de.ubi.com/eve/forums/...4/m/6061084955

there are over 100 reviews and they're all positiv to enthusiastic - same at other German SH4 - websites.

We will publish a version 2 in combination with a complete new campaign, new training missions and some mods. But we will not publish it until patch 1.3 is ready.

So - if someone will translate in english: please wait for our version 2!

best regards
Minimax

I fear you misunderstood me.

What I was refering to a "review" was would a version, translated using Bablefish, be pracitcal for English speaking players. Otherwise there would be no point in linking it in the FAQ thread, if no one can understand it.

sorry for misunderstanding you!

Bubblefish is, is... let's say not the best way ...
I don't think, that anybody can work with a translation made by bubblefish.

Only a translation by an english and german speaking human would be useable!

Even then the conversion from metric to imperial will lead to innaccuracies.... oh wait... never mind.

No one has started a wiki for SH4 ? there was a pretty good one for SH3.

Mark Twain would have loved it. Here is a direct quote from a speech of his: "Since long, my gentlemen, have I the passionate longing nursed a speech on German to hold, but one has me not permitted."
