Default Anyone else play in realtime?

Im about 3 days into my second realtime patrol (ie 1xTC) , and was wondering if anyone else out there plays in 1X?

It started out of necessity as i use RealNav which means im never 100% certain of my exact position and dont want to increase the TC and risk straying of course or running aground.

So far im really enjoying it as im seeing the sunrises/sunsets and watching the weather slowly changing as the days roll by, rather than just zooming at 1024X untill i find something to sink.

Only problem so far is im fast running out of books to read!

Am i the only one?

I intend to when the GWX mod is complete.

No more tedious testing and coordination... just being able to relax and share patrol reports with the GWX dev guys! No more expectations for us...

DiD career... and finally being able to choose a favorite U-number... getting attached to my "crew."

Sounds like pure bliss to me. I'll be able to finally read my U-boat/naval library for enjoyment instead of abusing them as "tools for research."

I even bought and tested a baby monitor so I could do other things around my U-boa... I mean house... while I am sailing. (Yes, I'm dead serious about the baby monitor! )

I think I'll probably need to sign up for a twelve step program too.

When I retire yes

But that is close to 20 years from now. At that time I will have a fully modelled, life size VIIC or Gato Class Sub in my backyard, I will play out of it .

Good luck to those that do, past, present and future

Just to sit there and see nothing happens for days wouldn't be very much fun I think. I also don't want to run my PC as a fulltime SH simulator either
Shipping around at 512x (or less if there eventually is something special/dangerous nearby) is relaxed and time expensive enough.

I honestly wish I had the time and patience to give it a go

Kpt. Lehmann, maybe you could share a few titles from your u-boat library with us - maybe some of the lesser known ones, i would be very interested.
at present i am reading Neither Sharks nor Wolves by Timothy Mulligan.

More like 12, if you do it honestly; that is, when real life intrudes, pausing the game and sitting there for the whole patrol. Letting it run while you do other things still isn't real time.

Do you take a month off after a patrol and tend to real life? Or is the time spent in the bars hoping Bdu won't reassign your boat the med

What, Steve? You mean you don't regard your home as your U-boat?? I'm shocked!
Me, I'm always busy on my boat, while listening for reports from my crew. I wonder if this means my girlfriend is BdU?

Let's see... I don't see her for long stretches of time... she transmits orders frequently by wireless... Hmmm...

"Return to Base!"
"Jawohl!"

I try to play most of the tactical parts in Real Time. But I cruise at 1024 until I get to my patrol area.

:rotfl: "I'm shocked! SHOCKED, to find gambling in this establishment!"...oops, wrong genre. No, my life is filled with reading biographies, histories and comic books, as well as games. I also don't play combat flight sims in real time; waiting two hours for those bad nasty Germans to try to take advantage of my poor B-17s is just too much for an old fart like me.

As for your girlfriend being BdU, I wouldn't take the chance; just do as you're told and hope for the best. On the other hand, I don't think Onkel Karl would take too kindly to being told "Yes, dear."

I play a modified "real time" method based on my wifes mood. I'll use TC to get to and from my hunting area and TC1 while patroling/attacking. Once I'm on TC1, I'll leave the PC, cleanup the kitchen, act interested in what's on TV and keep checking back for contact updates.

Works well.
