I respectfully disagree and agree at the same time. I love the newer version, as it includes so much more of the book, but the mechanical whale isn't nearly as good. Of course getting Gregory Peck back to play Father Mapple was a brilliant stroke, and Bruce Spence as Elijah the soothsayer was great (he was the "Gyro Captain" from The Road Warrior, and the pilot with the kid in Beyond Thunderdome). Having a real Islander play Queequeeg didn't hurt, either.

But Peck and Orson Welles are still the best, in my book.

revelation!!
I didn't know there was a newer version. I always have a soft spot for Richard baseheart (the original Ishmael) for introducing me to subs in 'voyage to the bottom of the sea'. Still I'll try and rent this one..Thanks

Mike

What he said. Let's not forget John Huston directed and Ray Bradbury wrote the screenplay. I saw the later version and read the book(along with Typee & Omoo) and Peck still beats Patrick Stewart(and I really like Patrick Stewart).
