Submarine Appearance, colors??

When the modders make high res skins for our subs, they usually have a grey hull, and grey conning tower...

yet the subs UBI gave us, are dark in color, when you search the internet for pictures you tend to see a little bit of both....

so whats with the hulls that were painted, vs the hulls that were dark in color??

Early in the war US submarines were painted black (a paint scheme called MS9 if I recall correctly), but as the war progressed new and more effective camouflage patterns evolved. Hence the grey/black paint scheme you see on some boats.

Personally I like the black (I guess they figured black was best at the beginning as the sub would attack at night, makes sense). The skins that originally came with the game when used give me better FPS as well.

Judging by her hull number that's the USS Drum. If I'm right she is located in Mobile, AL.

Come on down to Baltimore MD and see the USS Torsk. She is still painted the same today as in the photo. She is right in front of the National Aquarium. If you make you way here, let me know. I'm only 20 minutes away and will come on down to meet you and tour this sub with you. She is the last submarine to fire a torpedo for a sinking during WW2.

BTW....all you skin modders. How about a go on this baby for a skin job?

I've been on the Torsk;. Also been on the Constellation as well.

The aquarium in Baltimore is the best!

Inner harbor is a neat lil place.

I knew it! I went through it once. That picture makes me sad though. Seeing it decaying like that.

When I stepped foot on it, it was still in the water. Its a Gato class whcih is my favorite class. I need to dig up the pictures that my family took when we were there.

"She received a total of 12 battle stars for World War II service. She is credited with sinking 15 ships, a total of 80,580 tons of enemy shipping, eighth highest of all U.S. submarines in total Japanese tonnage sunk."

Last time I was on her was about 20 years ago. This pic I believe was her last paint job. Once I get off my dead butt I'm volunteering a few weekends a year to keep her up. What the hell. She is only 20 minutes from me.

Should be somewhat easy. She is already black like the original file skins basically the mouth and eye. She would look good in this game for sure. Rock on!

I would do it but I would not know were to begin
