Of course we know the Tomahawk is the quintessential sea-borne land attack missile... I was wondering, does anyone know of anything comparable outside of the U.S.? I have read so far about the Russian SS-N-21 and the Indian BrahMos (primarily anti-ship but apparently is land attack capable) but there's a lot of info to sift through and everyone seems to like lumping SLCMs into a single category, whether they be anti-ship or land attack. Any help is appreciated my friends

Here's a FAS link to LACM's:
http://www.fas.org/irp/threat/missile/naic/part07.htm They've got a small list of them, some sea-launched and others not. Most noticeable is: The KEPD-150 Tarus ( http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/m...row/taurus.htm ) It says in the first link that it is Sea Launch capeable, but I don't see anything in the article about it. I'll search deeper into other sources.

Taurus is air launched only. It could be adapted to surface launch, but there are no plans to do that.
The german navy will use the swedish RBS 15 Mk. 3 as its new ASM, and it is land attack capable.

Nice info all. I've also stumbled onto this site: http://www.missilethreat.com/cruise/...40/default.asp which has been helpful.

Of course there is my personel favroate the old Regulus:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSM-N-8_Regulus The regulus II had a range of 2,200 km and a speed of mach 2, compare that to the tomahawks range of 2,500 km and wimpy speed of 550 mph. Not bad for a missile from the '50s! ![]() ![]() Only one was ever test fired before the program was canceled- cruise missiles were considered too easy to shoot down compared to the Polars SLBM. |
