Default Missing child

As this entire board seems to have been obsessed with a missing game patch recently may I now draw your attention to the case of a missing English child in Portugal.
Three-year-old Madeleine McCann from Rothley, Leicestershire disappeared on May 3 during a holiday with her parents in the Algarve region of southern Portugal.

As gamers we have the ability to pass the word to all corners of the world as Madeleine could now be anywhere. Please wherever you are travelling or working, near or far spread the details and description about this missing little girl.

A poster and appeal in several different languages can be downloaded from the following link:

www.ceop.gov.uk/mccann.html

Ask your friends to translate the words if necessary and ask them to display the poster on notice boards, bars, shops, restaurants, offices etc.

This story may be big news in the UK and Portugal however in other countries it may have not even got a mention.

Anyone with ANY information that may help the police investigation can call INTERNATIONAL CRIMESTOPPERS on: +44 1883 731 336.

Please download the poster now.

Yes, very sad, but it's important to remember that children all around the globe as in just as much need of help through lack of food, water and medical care, because they are in war zones or because of exploitation or abuse.
I think it is wrong to focus on one child when there are so many that need of life-or-death help.
Consider donating to a children's charity.

Yes, it's a terrible thing, but to be strictly accurate: Three-year-old Madeleine McCann from Rothley, Leicestershire disappeared on May 3 when her parents left her in a holiday apartment at night (along with two other young children) without any supervision while they were out enjoying themselves. And, there is a child-minding service available in that holiday complex, but they couldn't even be bothered getting their hands in their pockets to pay for it.

I've no wish to see the child harmed and I certainly hope she is returned safely, but it's a shame her parents didn't act more responsibly. Innocent children rely on their parents to protect them from things like this, and it's a responsibility that comes with having a child.

It has been covered here in Australia, but has dissappeared from the news in the last couple of days due to lack of any new developments.

While I hope and pray that that poor little girl is found safe, I agree.

If you want to narrow it down some more, think of the children abducted every day. I get an Amber alert pretty much once or twice a week every week, and have for many years. Each one of those children deserves the same attention than she's getting.

Quite a terrible thing to happen to any parent.

But...

How many of you guys with very young kids would leave them alone in your holiday villa whilst you went to the pub for a couple of hours of an evening, even if the villa itself was 'within sight'?

I'm not pointing any deliberate fingers of blame (the media have also studiously avoided mentioning this point lest they upset anyone) but this is something which was completely avoidable.
And for that they now have to suck it up.
I know it sounds harsh but some folk dont have the brains they were born with

Rothley is just down the road from me and we've had loads of this in the newspapers and other local stuff.
Public displays of abject sympathy from all and sundry got a bit over the top sometimes, but I guess this is a result of an overly cynical media... look how many weepy people crawled out of the woodwork to lament the death of 'the peoples princess' Diana, who never took any other interest in her?

All the same, I hope they find the girl safe and well and she's returned to her parents.

At the risk of turning this thread into another bashing of the Middle East, I reckon that's probably where she's landed up. There was a rumour of a sighting in Morocco, but I'd say she's in Saudi Arabia most likely...

Feel terrible for the parents, no-one should have to go through that.

and may i add if this was a single parent or a couple on benefits the social services would have stepped in and taken the other children fancy leaving a 3 year old and two 18 month old boys alone while you go out and have a meal

this may sound heartless ive got 2 boys of my own i wouldnt dream of leaving them a hundred yards away while i eat

It is a terrible thing that has happened. It is quite big news articles about it here in Sweden too btw.

Oh, and I had no thoughts what-so-ever that the "one word story game" is more important than the health of the young girl.

Frankly, i wanna know who in the family is so well connected to get the media in on it so much... would it be cynical to ask if they've been offered money for an "exclusive" interview... maybe a film or tv deal??

harsh as it may seem, i dont really care about this kid. Of course i want her found and returned to her folks, but lets be honest, theres (and i quote an ad i just saw) 1 kid dying every 8 seconds in africa alone. the amount of money spent covering this story coulda set up plenty of villages for plenty of years, i've no doubts!

Perspective, people.
