Unfortunately I have to report the untimely loss of U-64 (Type IXC) with all hands to British dd's. The official report states:
Oberleutnant z. S. Jonny Mälzer and U-64 were lost sometime on 02JAN42. Jonny's career: 01 september 1939 -02 January 1942. Decorations: 27JUL41 KNIGHT'S CROSS WITH GOLDEN OAK LEAVES, SWORDS, AND DIAMONDS 335,564 total tonnage sunk on 21 patrols, including HMS Rodney (36,000 tons) on 14 Feb 1940. Also sunk: 1 x Fiji class, 3 x black swan class, 3 x flower class, 2 x hunt I class, 1 x town class, 1 x Hunt II class. 277,899 merchant tonnage sunk. The crew of U-64 will be sadly missed... ![]() |
