Default Bored with Vanilla, want SuperMod, but how?..

Hello people;
I've arrived at the point with my stock SH3 installation where thoughts like "Oh god, here we go again..." and similar reflections are beginning to surface as I load up the game for another boring session wandering empty seas.
So I've decided to look into installing one of the super mods that I've been hearing about.
After wandering around the forums for 10-15 minutes trying to find out where to go and what to do and getting spaced out and glassy-eyed, I thought I'd ask if there's a post somewhere that gives a one-stop rundown on how to install either one of the super-mods (or both). I'm referring to the GWX or the NY...something or other mod that appear to be talked about the most in the forums.
I ask because I have a vague memory of stumbling across just such a post several weeks back. I know it's out there; I tried the search function and got dozens of returns and am beginning to climb the walls trying to find it or something like it.
So, anyway, I thought to hell with it; I'll just ask...
Thanks.

The GWX, which adds a ton of content and a bit of realismcomes with an install program like professional software. I seem to recall it's an InstallMaker utility. This means that all you have to do is patch SH III and install the thing.

NYGN, which is, to my knowledge, more of a realism mod. I don't know how to install it, but it probably has to do with JSGME, which you can download from somewhere on the forum.

GWX has more than just a bit of realism.

@ Greystone

Click on my sig for everything you need to know about GWX.

Most support and all new content for NYGM has now ceased.

WAC is also available, you can find the thread about that in the MODS section.

NYGM and GWX mods are both about realism, albeit with different perspectives and choices. In GWX, (As I understand it) superb graphics are a part of that realism, and of the inmersion and atmosphere that attempts to be created, so it clearly outshines NYGM in that part. Plus ability to play careers in the Black Sea and Indian Ocean. However, if you are looking for a certain game experience you expect from the game, all that is not as relevant as the feeling you get from each mod. In that case, simply try both and decide yoruself which is better.

Concerning your main question:

NYGM installs via JSGME, while GWX does it via its own installer. NYGM can thus be easily removed, while GWX will require a clean reinstall of SH3. However, once you install GWX there are 99,999999% chances you would never go back again to vanilla SH3 (Well probably even more than 99,999999%:hmm: ), so don't let that be an issue.

For NYGM install: Go to the sticky in this page, dowload the full NYGM 2.5 pack and put it into JSGME "Mods" folder inside SH3 main directory. Then just enable the mod. It will take a while, so be patient.

For GWX install: Download all the separate parts of it, put them to a folder. Click on the installer and point to your SH3 directory. The installer will do the rest. Once you are done, copy and paste over it the latest patch (1.03 if I remember correctly)

That's all. Well, not all....now kiss your friends and relatives good-bye for some time, your guaranteed to be glued to the screen for some weeks

Thanks for sparing me the tedium of figuring out where to go and what to do. It's not so much laziness as cluelessness. Appreciate it.
I had to laugh at your parting comment, Hitman; I'll make sure I tend to my final affairs and say all my goodbyes before starting my first patrol...

note: The patch number is 1.4b, and there are several different ones, so you need to get the correct one for your installation, before you install GWX.

Actually, its quiete simple.. just install GWX 1.03, and try.
Launch a mid 1940 campaing, to get directly in the happy times, have fun, and ask yourself why it is so easy.. YES it is SUPPOSE to be so, as it was in 1940 onwards till end 1942. As it was then.
get your tonnage, 100.000 or more, like all the other "show offs" inhere.. but mid 1942 and beginnign 1943 you WILL see, like then, the odds are changing, and you will need to learn new tactics!!

GWX follows the real happining quite well, and are scaring later on. Heck, the fun part of the first years will go away fast when those damn British go those damn radar, and find you. Then the (YES again) damn DD's work together with those damn planes to locate you and finally the dead screen. Thats the fun part, trying to stay alive.
You know, sinking ship can be boring at a point.

Try it, skip 1939, go to mid 1940, have fun for a few patrols, and then slowly but surley get in the bad part.. it is a strange fun to know your final fate.. down on the bottom, as a ghost swimming thru the ocean with thousands of other fellow seaman, who never come home from patrol.

Did you know some of them are still on patrol?

(would make a great script for a horror movie!)

Jogan

Wait till you get your first convoy attack. Oh, and be sure to read the manual to find out about the important things like anti-sub defenses all over the place. Dont let Bernard drive the boat when your near subnets or mines....

I'm supposing, in Sub culture, Bernard is the fumbling twit that always screws up at everyone's expense...? There's a story behind this?

I'd like to thank everyone for your feedback and comments.

I'll install the 1.03 patch after I finish sending these comments, then tiptoe back into the game and savor every new feature and nuance 'til I get settled enough to look into this SH3 Commander thing I've also heard about.

I can't imagine the amount of work, dedication, persistance, skill, and creative energy that went into putting the Grey Wolves Expansion together.
Mind boggling...

Cheers!
