Default Officer Monthly Base Pay

Thought it was pretty interseting to see what these ppl earned back then.
SOURCE:http://www.valoratsea.com/officer.htm

Now i am not sure this is corect but...
Captains sallary was $550 in 1943

Quote:
What cost $550 in 1943 would cost $6573.00 in 2006.
Quote:
Also, if you were to buy exactly the same products in 2006 and 1943,
they would cost you $550 and $46.02 respectively.
Based on:http://www.westegg.com/inflation/

Well if you check my 1st post again (updated) you see that that calculator would give you $6573.00 in 2006....now that's not bad! if that's correct that is. Even if you skim off some 1500 you still end up with 5073 bucks a month...can't be per year surely?

Wow! As an E-5 I made almost double what a Submarine qualified Admiral made back then! :rotfl:
Actually, A submarine Captian (read Commander) in 2006 makes more than that a month (avg base pay in 2007: $6200) as you have to figure in Sub pay, hazardous duty pay, and the Nuclear engineer pay. But very close indeed!

I can't speak for the Army, I'm not sure what their pay is like. I hope they aren't getting shafted on their pay, those guys sacrifice just as much, if not a lot more than we did.

You are right, base pay is the same, however there are a lot of extras that are thrown into the mix. For instance, I recieved Submarine pay as well as hazardous duty pay. A sub sailor who is in the nuclear engeneering field makes exta pay on top of that. Pilots recieve flight pay etc... I'm not sure what type of "extra pay" is available to the Army though (besides hazardous duty pay).
