Surface Radar on Gato?

I just upgraded to a gato class from a sargo because it is about 43' and im afraid they will phase me out (longest career so far, started at the beginng) and for some reason they wont let me put SJ radar on my gato class... I had it on my old sargo boat so what is the deal? newer boat cant use the new radar? any clue on this?

I had the same problem. However, when I came back from that patrol, I was able to add the SJ. I presume that you will see the same thing. I stayed out for ~30 days but I don't know if that mattered or not.
