Zeven Provincien does look so much cooler than our F 124 Frigates. Ok, the dutch didnt try to put APAR and VLS into the same hull as the 123s...
Isnt that song on the Vampire:Bloodlines soundtrack? Seriously, does anyone have a list of the "wet" and "dry" navies? Or better, is there any "dry" navy except the US? In the German navy it is usually two beers per man each day to be bought at the canteen. If there was a special occasion (party, one of the countless "baptisms" and line crossings etc) you can have more. Of course the german navy does have "splice the mainbrace" (at least on Gorch Fock), but it is called "Besanschot an" (heave to the mizzen sheet). ![]()

The US is the Only dry navy outside the Muslim world. We can all thank(or curse) then Secretary of the Navy, Josephus Daniels. In 1932, when the nation repealed Prohibition, Daniels, a teetotaler, decided the US Navy would stay dry. Prior to the passage of Prohibition, the US Navy did have a rum ration back to the Revolution.

For what it's worth, a large percentage of the world's merchant vessels are dry. Tankers are almost entirely dry... It's an insurance thing.

The Royal New Zealand Navy were the last to issue a spirits ration.

I would hate to be on FOD detail at that moment ![]() ![]() I would also like to know what the emergency was. That's a LOT of weight to be sliding on the water during a U-Turn ![]()

Don't try this one with a cruise ship, tho, it wouldn't be nearly as funny... For the peoples on board, at least. Quote:
Other ships have strict restriction on how much alcohol you can have in your system at any time, with stricter restriction for when you show up for duty and the hours before. Kinds of take the fun out of partying :-D |
