Default Look if your going to change my home port...

Please tell me !

My last carrier I sailed from brisbane, then it changed to pearl (only reason I know is I looked into save game data files), but before I could dock at Pearl I was ordered to the marshells. Upon completeing that patrol I return to pearl only to find my home base is now in Austraillia (only reason I know is I looked into save game data files).

How about a splash message like the one from pac to tell you to attack the convoy you just sighted ?

Im not saying that a message was not sent via radio but seeing as I get about 20 radio reports a day I somehow seemed to have missed it.

You woulda thought the radio man would have said something BEFORE I was halfway back to pearl !

Okay Im off the soap box.

I haven't had this happen to me yet (only on my third patrol) but I already know I agree with you totally. The changing of your home port is pretty important information and there shouldn't be any way the player could possibly miss it. The radio man could announce it, or throw the info into the message log, or pop up the clipboard or something!

PS: it's career, btw. Carrier is like in aircraft carrier.

It probably is in the message log buried amongst the dozens and dozens of contact reports. Then again It may not.

Somtimes it prompts you others it doesent. The thing is that it is VERY easy to miss.

ps; Its Steve's job to rag on my spelling :p

I've noticed a lot of posts recently about this topic, I've been mucking around in the
upc files for awhile and there are some inconsistencies with sub transfers when a
flotilla disbands.

This should be like a mission, with a checkbox. Report to Pearl, etc.

Thus far with my new career, I have been told of all my base changes. Game seems to do what it wants when it wants. I started in Manilla, was told to go to Java and then Fremantle. After that they gave me a new sub and sent to PH to pick it up.

Where and how did it tell you ?

So far the only way Ive been able to find out is to dig into data files.

I'm on my second patrol of my career, and after using up my ammo, I head back to Pearl. But before I get far, I get a message (TC goes to 1x) that says all Asiatic fleet boats are reassigned to Freemantle. That must be me, says I. So I plot a course south, and head there, dodging every ship and aircraft I see, arriving with only 3% fuel remaining. I wondered why all the RAN folks were giving me funny looks. But then I find out that I can't dock, only refit.

So I guess I am not an Asiatic fleet boat after all. I should have known what fleet I belong to, but why bother me with a message that doesn't affect me?

Not saying that it was indeed sent to you and you missed it, but reading this, you might want to check out ParaB's "Fewer Radio messages" mod. Maybe you weren't around at the time he came up with it.

What he basicly did was to reduce the max distance for "Contact" messages (those who will inform you of, well, ship contacts and display them on the map, usually flooding both the map and your message board), in cfg/contacts.cfg, so that you might only be informed of contacts that are closer to your position. In theory, I'm thinking you could even reduce this to 1 kilometer (must be >0 km) and thus get no radio contact reports at all anymore, which might arguably be more realistic since subs certainly didn't get almost daily updates on enemy positions iRL. Especially in early to mid war when the USAAF and USN air was not yet all over the Pacific.

Great mod also. Radio traffic reduced and no clipboard lag on loading. Plus, I really do not need to now about a convoy 1000nm from me. Makes no sense at all. But, yes, my one message that Fremantle was my new port shows here and Java as well. Sometimes a pop up stating new port for me.
