Default COD4

Sadly COD4:Modern Warfare is NOT what I wanted. Another modern
FPS we don't need. There are already many of them coming to the
PC and I may look and purchase one but I am still looking for
that elusive WW2 FPS which the game developers don't want
to provide us with. MOH:Airborne is the only one i know of...

I saw the recently released video, and while it looked good (apparently that was all in-game footage, not pre-rendered), IW's titles are much too arcadey for my gaming tastes. I currently enjoy RO for online play, and am hopeful Tripwire's next title will also be WWII theatre based. While I prefer a WWII theme, I'll be picking up ArmA once I get a new system built.

What we dont want now is another generic WW2 shooter. I must admit from what ive seen of CoD4 it does look alittle off and doesnt really interest me, but there really isnt much that can be done to refresh the WW2 shooter horde

What we need is a FPS set in Korea or Vietnam or as Biggles said WWI

Im also kind of sick of the WW2 theaters, time to move on for a bit and play with other wars (Korea, Vietnam, etc). I dont think ww1 would work well, unless you wana spend most of the time hiding in a trench, getting shelled, then charging over the line only to get cut down by machine gun fire or be forced to retreat back. Not like alot of ground changed hands for most of the war.

Is Call of Duty 4 gona be console only again? Im getting very sick of console games taking pc games over. Especialy FPS games, i detest trying to shoot with a controler pad :p

I expect we will see a good vietnam game in the near future. Who could resist making one with the Crysis engine?

He said "good" Vietnam game. :p

Speaking of Vietnam games, anyone ever play Pterodon's Vietcong or Vietcong 2? I never played the latter, but I really enjoyed the original (and the expansion, Fist Alpha).

I played the first one and liked it in some points. Tho, there was a tad too much tunnels in the game, I give you that. I loved the mission where you went through the tunnels and ended up behind enemy lines at night. I almost pooped myself when I had to go thru a small lake, knowing that if they see me, I have no cover at all.

I"m looking forward to COD4 which is going to be for PC and probably ported over to console. The trailer does look amazing, though time will tell as we get more info.

Infinity Ward got a little tired of the WWII theme and needed a change of pace hence is why they made the move to modern warfare.

There's an understatement. Vietcong is one of the few FPS games which I ever bothered to complete the SP campaign. I did it on the "Vietcong" difficulty, which in hindsight was gluttony for punishent, but fun nevertheless. That tunnel mission was fun (once out), but you're right about the overall excess of tunnel crawling involved.

In the end, I got far more gameplay mileage from the MP piece.

Good times!

If I pick a modern FPS in the next few months, it would be ArmA over COD4...
