"We were amazed by this finding, as previously this wreckage had long been sitting under the sea and rusting in peace without anyone knowing about it," New Zealand Press Association quoted Waura as saying.
Um...weren't the PTs wooden hulled? How the heck does wood rust?

Yeah Yeah... wood rots

Mahogany is what most of them were made of thats why they where so tough.

But every thing else on board these fine craft was metal

2 or 3 - 12 cylinder Packard engines

up to 40 knts.

Gotta love'em...

Mahogany frame, plywood covering. Engines, guns and fittings could rust, but it's probably just a figure of speech.

On a good day! With the kind of situations they had in the Solomons, they were lucky sometimes to make 30.

Or, as the old PT-boatman's song goes:
"Some PTs do seventy-five, and some do sixty-nine;
If we get ours to run at all, we think we're doing fine."

ya know, a nice WWII PT boat simulator would also be nice. I remember destroyer command having one but is there another PT simulator out there?

I was wondering that too.

I remember hearing about "PT Knights" ... maybe it was "Schnell Boats"...

I have a MOD for SHII that lets me use a PT Boat ... It's purty cool to have a 35knt sub.
