While the 2900XT beats the GTS, you can't say the same about the 2900XTX and the 8800 GTX...

I really wanted the XTX to own the GTX, I wanted it to be better, I always liked ATI better, will I now have to go for the nVidia?

The headline says it all: ATI Radeon HD 2900 XTX, Doomed from the Start

I want that ATI card because it uses less of your CPU.

But I need an nVidia card to be able to use nVidia's control panel to force a widescreen monitor into displaying a 4:3 aspect ratio. Otherwise I get an oval periscope in SH3/4 among other distortions in almost every game.

So far I'm thinking about ditching the widescreen monitor to my non-gaming PC and picking up the ATI card.

Wish I could pick up the HD 2900 XT...unfortunately, I'm stuck with AGP...which means I'm going to be upgrading to a X1950 Pro 512MB this summer.

The BFG GeForce 8800GTS is down to $309.00 at ewiz ... and it's just an under clocked 8800GTX which is easy to bump it back up ...

The 8800GTS is only 320MB, but most games don't require that much.

Yet, I like ATI enough to wait and see, plus my pocket book can't handle anyhing over $200 right now, anyway.

I'm going to fly my FSX someday and watch those wild animals run across the African plains ...

Well, this is not the full story. If you read down below, you would have picked up why the 8800 GTX is as far ahead as it shows in the story. To me, to compare them like this is really bad!

I am really surprised with how crappy the performance is for the XTX....This seems really odd as the XT beat the GTS right? Also I noticed the clocks for the 8800GTX are higher then the 575/900mhz clocks of the original. Are you using an OCed 8800?

It's a vendor OC (its best if we dont' reveal the exact card), but you are correct it's not the reference clocks.

I seriously question Anandtechs bench marking ethics. Either do Stock to Stock OR Best over clocked to Best over clocked. This Stock to Overclocked is crap. The only time that Stock to Overclocked is legit is when you are comparing the same make an model to set up a metric for how the part scales with speed.

Anandtech is becoming or perhaps has become another THG.
Last but not least, this is a reference beta driver test and you can see things like up to 25% gain for using release drivers. If you overclock this thing, even 10% and add up to 25% for drivers, you are way beyond an 8800 GTX.

All and all, time will tell. Right now, AMD/ATI have bigger problems - $5.8 billion in debt. Not sure what they are going to do for the debt problem.
