On the nav map, what is the speed in knots of contacts marked as "slow", "medium" or "fast"?
a basic question really, but I could not find the answer in the manual or in a quick search on the forum. Without an easy way to determine target speed, you need every help you can get when doing manual TDC. ![]() |

35 knots is fast for AIR? Most planes I'm familiar with can't even get off the ground at that speed!

thanks U-Bones, exactly what I was looking for, although I see it won't be much help in manual TDC.

I think the .1 is stopped. Slow would be 8 knots for a Merchant. Medium would be 12. Never mind - up to is the key word. ANything over .1 is slow. 8 knots is where medium starts.

The really great thing about these speed settings are:
You Can Adjust Them to Your Own Preferences !! JIM

so slow, medium, fast: -merchants: 1-7, 8-11, 12-35; -warships: 1-7, 8-18, 19-35; -convoy: 1-7, 8-11, 12-35; Quote:
these numbers are slightly different, which are the correct ones? "+21 after the first attack" means after my sub has been detected? what about the slow, medium targets, do they speed up? |

However, I'd modify it a bit from what I've experienced using the 3 minute rule and often running it to 6 minutes to be sure: 6-7 knots 8-11 knots 12+ knots Reason being.. I just had a "task force" consisting of 2 big Euro Liners and 3 or 4 Destroyers which were labelled as 'fast' speed on my nav map. They were doing 12 knots. Also, I've seen plenty labelled as 'medium' speed doing 9 knots. Quite a few of them. I'm not sure if 8 knots should be slow or fast as I haven't experienced any 8 knotters yet. I had "show contacts on map" for my 3 minute rule speed check and I was dead on with my shots on all of these. ![]()

I learned somewhere the rule of "three".
Very Slow ~ 3kts Slow ~ 6kts Medium ~ 9kts Fast ~ 12kts Very Fast ~ 15kts As you can tell it is a very generalized rule of thumb but applying that to Wazoo's method for plotting an intercept course, 9 times out of 10 I'm right on the money
