Hi everyone!
I bought and installed SH4 this weekend, hoping that I'd once again be able to recreate the fantastic Atlantic battles that were the most important part of World War II. Unfortunately, something is horribly wrong with SH4. This is the least accurate depiction of the U-boat war I've ever seen! I knew something was wrong the minute I started a new campaign and couldn't start before December 1941. I was even more perplexed when I was assigned a bizarre "S" type submarine, which bares no resemblance to any U-boat I know of and doesn't have any aft torpedo tubes. I started out at "Manila," a base in the "phillypeenes." I was even more confused when I saw ships flying American flags in the harbor, and when I looked at the navigation screen the ocean I was in looked nothing like the Atlantic! I left Manila, and decided to sink a few of the American ships. I entered the command room and noticed that none of my crew were wearing German uniforms! All of the labels on the controls were in some bizarre non-Germanic language, and my crew were speaking in a bizarre gibberish language I'd never heard. I sank one of the American destroyers, got bored, and returned to base. For some reason I was hauled away and court-martialed for sinking what I thought was one of the enemy's ships! An enemy ship that was sitting in my harbor! I also noticed that the ships I were supposed to be sinking were the ones flying white flags with red circles on them. They didn't look British to me at all. One of their destroyers rammed me and shot me to pieces with it's guns. It turns out those ships were JAPANESE! Germany's ALLIES during World War II? Why the HELL did they shoot at ME and WHY am I supposed to sink THEM?!!! This game sucks. The developers obviously never saw U-571, or else they'd know what the real U-boat war was like! ![]() |
