Default Sub Damage seems better

last night i was attacking a merchant on the suface. he got a lucky shot on me and blew a hole in the side of my sub. i sank him, then saved the game. finished repairs then took the sub down. i was able to get to 300 feet without any problems. if i had tried this prior to the patch i would of sunk like a stone. this was a gaping hole in the right rear of my sub, wish i had took screen shots. this to me was actualy not how it should be, a hole like that should have made me stay on the surface all the way to port.

anyone else having more luck with damage to the sub?

FYI the engine room bulkhead was about 75% red before repairs. so not "totaly" destroyed, but it was a very big hole in the sub!

when you make a repair and dive and don't get crushed to death at 60ft explain to me how thats not better.

to me it was "better" than it used to be.......

before, any damage, even damage that wasn't "visible" would prevent even PD.

maybe my crew should have been able to repair "good enough" with "some" flooding to PD depth, but i don't think i should have been able to goto 300 feet with a gaping hole in the side. PD is "relatively" low PSI, so i should have been able to obtain PD with like i said some flooding, DC teams should have to be on it the whole time i am submerged along with the pumps trying to stay ahead of the flooding.

but i had NO flooding, even at 300 feet.

don't get me wrong, i was glad i was able to continue the patrol, but if after i had saved i was only able to goto PD, i would have headed for port. as it was i continued along with the patrol with no consequences of the mistake i made with the merchant.

When SH4 claims to be a simulation it's really not better. Try to repair a damaged pressure hull after it was hit by a 3 od 4inch HE shell. The hole isn't just the same diameter as the shell caliber The devs made here a very good work making the boat unable to dive after such a hit.
EDIT: I was thinking about the silly situation when u can see inside your boat through the 20inch hole and want to dive even to PD. Not sure if such a damage can be repared in SH4 at all, perhaps its still there because to serious to repair and it isn't simply shown in the repair screen.
but nevermind, I'm to tired right now to discuss it. time to sleep
happy hunting

You can't repair the pressure hull itself. The only way to repair it is via the bulkheads. We can debate different type of hits and damage all day but getting crushed to death at 60 ft is never going to be correct.

this was what i had and was able to go to 300 feet after repairs. prior to the patch, no way i could have done it. seems they "tuned" damage a bit too far. that or the visible damage is "off".

except when i got lit up i finished sinking their ships repaired my damaged diesal only one was hurt yet couldnt move then after everything was repaired i still couldnt and i hit starboard evasive dove and drove around surfaced no diesals still so i manual set depth to 50 and go straight down. hmmpf also note things were being reported repaired that werent damaged and things that were were being repaired out of order and reported in still a different order

I think that the visable damage is just that as far as the sub is concerned. No way could you dive or stop flooding from a gaping hole. Before the patch things were not getting fixed and you would die after the patch it gets fixed way to quickly but at least you can keep playing even though it is not anywhere near realistic, hopefully they will find the "sweet spot"
