Notepad or Word.

You can't change the resolution in the main.cfg. Although there is an entry for it, it is not recognised.

Have a look here for the instructions to increase the resolution - http://www.communitymanuals.com/shii...lay_Resolution

What I'd like to know is how to edit the .dat files. I found a site online that said that Office Access would let me but it said that it was an unknown database.

I wouldn't mind digging into some dat files to see whats what.

Privateer, DivingDuck, Ref to name a few will be able to help you. It depends what you want to do.

Firslty Pack3D will extract the contents of the dat files for you. Then you'll have more files to look at such as textures, obj files etc. However, if you want to go deeper then you are looking at HEX editing. Which is like Kingon to me.
