Default GWX-Noobie Questions

I am in the middle of my first patrol using GWX 1.03 and the latest version of sub commander.

After playing thru the SH3 tutorials, I plunged into my first career.

Leaving port for the first time with GWX 1.03 was awesome. I spent over an hour real time just leaving port for the open seas and taking everything in/trying out the controls/etc. The immersion factor was something else. I recalled the words of George Clooney as the captain of the boat in the movie Perfect Storm as he left Glouster harbor...felt the same way as U-53 headed out on my first patrol.

I am pretty sure I set everything up for 100% realism.

However, after making three attacks I am not so sure.

When I view the Nav Station (F5), if I have locked on a target I actually see the target moving across this screen. When the lock is lost, the target icon disappears.

Also, there is a line that shows hydrophone contacts that are constantly updated.

Is this playing at 100% realism? FWIF my watch crew is rated at 100%, bar graph completely filled. Also, my sonar man is a senior chief WO with no ratings.

Help is appreciated...I don't want to have to break bad habits for full immersion.

PS-I read someplace that there is a keystroke that allows ease in centering the F5 screen on your U boat, but can't seem to find the posting.

PS2-FWIW...around 3 PM I spotted a merchant at long range (set up GWX with 16km visual range)...plotted its course and attempted to close. Interrupted twice by approaching warships and three time by aircraft...all resulting in diving and running submerged. Anyways, it was about 10 PM and I had found and manuevered into perfect firing position on the merchant I had been tracking. I was submerged, sitting 600m at a dead stop off his port side watching this merchant fill up my scope...licking my chops...with about 15 seconds to go before I fired I caught sight of his flag illuminated by a spotlight...DAMN...a US merchant...I just sat there silently and watched it sail on its merry way unaware of the danger it was in. I probably had invested about 1.5 hours of my time in this ship. As I watched it disappear, I truly had a sense of disappointment that an actual U Boat captain would have had in 1939. At least I don't have a real crew to explain that to.

CTRL+left-click on the center of the map and it centers the screen on your sub.

If you are at 100% realism then there will be no contacts at all shown on the maps. Check this next time you load a new patrol, there should be ticks in every box on the realism screen.

FYI

the tab ''No Map Updates'' aka Gods Eye

have no effect on the percentage % of realism

make sure you tagged that one , its on the left row on the bottom

I can understand you, I am too in my first patrol and I spent hours chasing neutral Norwegian ships... this adds a lot to immersion (no pun intended )

I could not believe my eyes when I saw at last the Red Ensign... I spent two torpedoes for a small merchant, just to be sure not to miss my first sinking!!!

Hunter-

TXS.

I was pretty sure of the 100% realism setting.

I think I remembered the tab you are referring to...Being a noobie I wasn't sure what it was about and since it didn't effect the 100% realism setting I just left it off.

Dowly... TXS also.
