Default white water from wake/bow is still white at night

this simply should not be.... you shouldnt look out and everything is pitch black only to see the outline of a ship by the splashes of water around it... (water does not light up like that at night) is there a way to mod this and make it darker at night?? its really distracting.

if anything the wake should have a greenish hue ... maybe this has been mentioned before (by anyone thats been on a boat through the night with the lights out), its actually quite increadible to watch all the algea light up with each splash of the boat and swirl behind you in your wake... i know it varies in amount and brightness depending on where you are, though the last place i saw it was in the cold waters off the coast of northwest france and not some triopical place.

I remember reading an account somewhere that stated the bow wave was the most visible part of the submarine at night. Something about phosphorescent algae perhaps? Or maybe it was just moon/star light reflecting off it.

I wish I remember where I read that.

Yes, green would be better on a pitch-black night. White is good when the moon is out.

hmm dunno if this is what you are talking about but when I go to the bridge when it's dark out the bow wake will be white like it is in daytime then a few seconds later it changes to it's 'night color.' Very distracting and stupid looking.

I have the same issue.

The wake and sea foam glow in the dark.

Sorry and with great respect but you are wrong, I am an ocean sailor and have sailed in many parts of the Pacific where much of the SH4 action takes place.

First thing is, when it is dark and there is no moon it is pitch black and I mean black. But the stars are very, very bright, much brighter than anything people from large cities or the Northern Hemisphere can imagine. You can almost read a book just from the milky way over head

Now for waves and wakes. It is absolutely true, you can often only tell where a ship or boat, or for that matter a reef is by the phospheresance, (stirred up algae) in the wake or the bow wave or even rippling down the side of the boat.

I have seen this

Regards

I have also spent enough time on boats on the pacific that white wakes at night under many conditions is not at all unusual. They can change colors depending on how the wake curls and catches the light. Even course changes can affect the water as well speed. Whether it happens all the time under all conditions, it's possible to nit pick into obsurdity here.
