Default No map contacts

I have no map contacts checked. I patrolled over three hours and only turned up the ghost frigate. Just where are all the ships everyone claims there is an abundance of?

In the shipping lanes!

I can't recall when I last played with map updates on. Must've been SHIII with patch 1.3 when I had to have them to replace the 'expired' sonarman.

When you get enough time on this thing, I swear: you really don't need auto map updates.

Oh, and they don't do anything to either traffic or, for that matter, radio-reported distant contacts on the map.

Here is the thing CC, I clicked on VERY HARD and checked all the boxes with exception of outside views. Since then I can sail for day and find nothing. I'm just wondering how VERY HARD changes the game play.....

I've had one patrol like that. Playing at 100%. I was patroling Solomon Sea and couldn't find anything. It got more and more frustrating, and for over three months at sea I couldn't find a single contact. I thught for sure that it must have been some mod I've installed but in my next patrol everything where back to normal, I even sank my first Aircraft carrier.

Ps. If you have radar installed make sure you check if it's on once in a while. High waves will turn it off, especially in small S-boats.

It is very strange. Thanks for the tip on the radar! I'm starting a fresh patrol tonight out of PH. I usually us Manila. Start year will be 42. I want to see how many contact I get. Now mind you, the closer I got to Formosa I did get contacts and it should be this way as I'm closing in on Japan. Unfortunate my last night contact was the ghost frigate.

Is the range in the TDC in YARDS? And how many YARDs in a nautical mile, that's what the chart is measured in, right?

I'm trying to practice this with no map updates, but I think there's a conversion I am missing.
