Default optimum TC?

Has anyone worked out what is the optimum time compression to get the best results in a campaign, namely weather generation, reports, crew management.

I remember in sh3, if you went above, I believe, 32 or 64, crew fatigue was no longer calculated.

In Sh4, 16 days out of Pearl, I have been running a campaign at both 512 and 128 TC, stopping after every watch change to check the weather and crew fatigue and I have not noticed any difference between the two. The crew will get fatigued/recover from fatigue, gain experience and the weather will change the same at both 512 or 128.

Worse still, in SH3 if you went above 256 (or was it 128) airplanes didnt attack you!

Hope it isnt the same in SH4? Although judging from some of the things Ive read, its the opposite

I'll be at 4000X compression and airplanes will show up. I don't think fatigue is an issue because of the way the crew switches watches. You just have to make sure before you do a long run that the aa/deck gun crews are off station and the damage control team is off because they don't change watches and will just keep working.

SH3 trained me very well to avoid high time compression because I didn't want to get "jumped."

I have to keep reminding myself that I can go up to 4000 or whatever it is.

SH4 time compression seems much, much more functional. Yes?

My experience thus far concerning TC is there are no issues. Planes arrive, ships are spotted, sonar detects sound. All in all the TC is good.

As a matter of interest, have they implemented a way of using high X TC with your scope raised and having the AI keep watch, not just by hydrophone?

Not as big a deal in SH4, as no schnorkels, but would be good.

High TC seems to work much better in SH4, although it's difficult to say for sure how much you might be missing by travelling in a patrol grid at high speed, but I've been taken from 2048x down to 1x when a plane with spotted with the same amount of time to dive as I would've had at, say, 128x.

I just wish the crew spoke _after_ the time dropped, so I could leave it running on high and be alerted by my crew if I'm in another room. Is that moddable?

i know SH Commander for Sh3 made it so you could set it to go to 0 TC when a plane was sighted, at least that way you dont get jumped.

although that made leaving port kind of a pain..

Well so far at 512 TC, it goes down to 1 when a plane is spotted in enough time so you can crash dive and escape. It seems to work better than in SH3, but I would probably need a lot more game time to say for sure.

I was cruising on the surface back into Freemantle yesterday at moderate TC and experienced damage to my AA. Like how? Errant seagulls?

This has happened to me on several occasions normally enroute to base after a mission. Most of the time, however, I experience complete destruction, not to even mention being court martialed post mortum. Sometimes I'm running on the surface, sometimes at periscope depth.

Weird.

Anyone else? Has this been reported B4?

Thanks!

Was your Deck/AA gun previously damaged? There are bugs with the damage control that make parts of your boat impossible to repair permanently.

Something is screwy with the damage. I was crusing thru the Coral Sea at high TC and suddenly one of my aft torpedo tubes go damaged. Half the red bar was filled!

Anyone got any idea about this?

Yup a bug I guess, probably "something" happened (weather, plane who knows?) that you missed in high tc but should not have.
