To ALL GWX SH3 players!
If you have'nt already done so, head over to the ![]() and download ACSoft's "Secret Mission" single player mission! ![]() It is VERY well written and uses a (included) Enigma machine simulator that is used to decode received radio messages thru out the mission! Directions received must be followed precisely to complete mission objectives. LOADS of fun! ![]() |

When using the Enigma machine I don't totally understand the "Kengruppen" part of the code.
It says that the it was the secret daily key but in another example it says that a 5 letter sequence at the beginning of a coded sequence is a kengruppen sequence used to determine which key it is. I don't understand that part exactly. |

ATTENTION !!!
I am very sorry about that, but unfortunately, the file "CODEBOOK 1942 8.txt" had an error. This is now corrected. For those who had already downloaded the mission, please, have a look here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...355#post483355 You will found a message where you can only download the corrected file. Hello Kaleun !!!
Although the documentation of the Enigma machine is very complete, here is a summary of how to use the machine. This might speed up a little your study and understanding of this complex decypher system. Enigma hardware setup: -------- Take the date of the message and select the according line in "CODEBOOK 1942 08.txt" AUGUST 10 - 16 - PSK ZSG - YMLM .... | 10 | B | III I VIII | 18 25 13 | BE CT DX FH IM KY NS PR UZ VW | SVD LKP XNJ JRF | -------- Open the front part of the Machine. Select the Enigma machine type ( the letter on the large cylinder) | 10 | B | III I VIII | 18 25 13 | BE CT DX FH IM KY NS PR UZ VW | SVD LKP XNJ JRF | Obviously, it must be: Kriegsmarine M3 - UKW = B -------- Select, set and place (from left to right) the wheels | 10 | B | III I VIII | 18 25 13 | BE CT DX FH IM KY NS PR UZ VW | SVD LKP XNJ JRF | | 10 | B | III I VIII | 18 25 13 | BE CT DX FH IM KY NS PR UZ VW | SVD LKP XNJ JRF | | 10 | B | III I VIII | 18 25 13 | BE CT DX FH IM KY NS PR UZ VW | SVD LKP XNJ JRF | Example: First wheel is wheel number III coded on 18 Close the front part of the machine -------- Open the front wiring side of the machine. Wire the machine on the front side: | 10 | B | III I VIII | 18 25 13 | BE CT DX FH IM KY NS PR UZ VW | SVD LKP XNJ JRF | Example "BE" mean: click on "B", then on "E" on the panel. This simulate the "B" wire plugged into "E". Close the front wiring side of the machine. -------- Message decoding: -------- Set the starting decypher code on the wheels AUGUST 10 - 16 - PSK ZSG - YMLM .... Type "ZSG". This will give you the message key in clear -------- Set the message key on the wheels Now you are ready to decode the whole message by typing all groups of 4 characters. -------- Good luck for this adventure and let me know if you liked this style of single mission. This might motivate me to write some more "Secret Missions" for you all. ACS |
