Default 1941 career and I have a radar antenna?!?!? GWX 1.03

It's 1941 and I am beginning my 3rd patrol. I recently upgraded GWX from the basic version to version 1.03 while in port after my second patrol. That took care of the problem of not being able to see my insignia on the conning tower. Now there seems to be another glaring problem since my upgrade to 1.03... as I'm pulling out of St. Nazaire, I notice that I have a giant, rotating radar aerial on the top of the conning tower! How did radar get added to my VII-C in 1941?? It's not even an upgrade option in port! Is this some sort of bug of which I'm unaware?? Once again... thanks to all of you in advance for your advice... I am a GWX noob and appreciate all of your valuable insights!

It's not radar, apparently it's a radio aerial of some sort.
It's only eye-candy, there is no functional purpose in the game.
You can download a mod so that the aerial is in the stowed (lowered) position

Go here http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/GWX/ and scroll down to the Optional Mods and get the Lowered DF antenna mod.

The Radio Direction Finder was a pre-war equipment, IMHO i think all uboats had it during all the war, a interesting article on uboat.net

thats cant be right. hate to use a movie as reference but they never had it in das boat. have u read the book "iron coffins". the skipper in that book never had this till 43. why do u think so many uboats were sunk by aircraft, it was the lack of radar to detect aircraft

As Alyebard said, it's not Radar - it's a radio direction finder.

As said above there's a mod to lower the antenna. However, my JSME is showing that it's installed but I still have the antenna up on my VIIB. Perhaps I'll try a re-install of the mod, if not I'll just live with it.

Radio not radar it was to pick up radio transmissions. Also, radar can't be used to detect radar...but a radar detector can.

Thanks guys! I tried downloading the file (lowered antenna) from a number of sites but I can't figure out how to install it. It says its a 7z file... and I don't know how to install that. I tried opening JSGME and it didn't show up. I'm not very familiar with JSGME by the way either... I'd appreciate any help or advice! Thanks!

Go here... http://www.7-zip.org/

Download the .exe version 4.42 and install it. This will allow you to decompress the 7z file.

As for JSGME...between jones' web site and the readme file it should be self explaining...and actually quite easy to use. If you still don't understand it, email Jonesy, he's a pretty good guy and im sure will help you sort it out.

I'm most certainly not a computer expert (if it doesn't work, boot it and keep on re-booting it till its dented!) but I have noticed that the mods I've downloaded wont show on JSGME unless I put them in a folder of their own within the Mods folder of SH3. If that helps
